I've been struggling with weight for about 7 years now. I went from almost 300lbs. to 235lbs. then Thanksgiving hit. That was back in 2002 or 2003. I've slowing gained weight, fluctuating back and forth and trying different methods and now I am back to 276 pounds (6' 1" frame.)

I do walk my dog often, I wish more than that but when we do walk, it's about 3 miles. What kills me is my horrible diet. I am a system administrator and though I spend a lot of time behind my desk, I work my way around our college campus often. There are times I may walk 10-15 minutes at a time at what I would consider a leisurely pace. Again, it's the diet... stupid!

So I found myfitnesspal on my iPhone. I like watching my calorie intake stay below my recommended limit of 1990 calories a day. Two days of watching *HOW MUCH* I eat and no real regrets. I have a goal to keep the numbers low. It's almost like a game.

I certainly hope this is the push I needed to get back in shape. I am happy with going down to 210lbs. I remember that weight and it wore well on me! I see some professor lost 24lbs in 10 weeks eating freaking Twinkies! By my own calculations if I continue with my very reasonable plan I will be under 260lbs in 5 weeks.

Is it cheating if I slightly over-estimate my calorie intake and slightly under-estimate my exercising? :)

Welcome to MFP! This is a great tool to help you. I find I can't over or under estimate because then I end up doing it too much and falling off the wagon but you need to do what works for you. I wish you the best of luck!
