Sooooo....did you want advice here? Or did you just want to sound uneducated and then accuse us of being nasty and spout off about your doctorate?

You have more excuses than a duck has feathers. There are plenty of free options for cross training, as has been mentioned in this thread. Stop finding excuses, start seeing results.

    Signed,

A Fat Girl Who Is Not Desperate And Runs Because She Loves It

Are you trying to be helpful? Because your post comes off as a mean attack. My comments have really hit a nerve with you, why is that? There is ZERO constructive advice in your post, and I have been careful to try to thank the people who have come in this thread to give me advice. Also, you are in Ohio, but are somehow inserting yourself into the comments I am making about life in New York City. I never stated that you are desperate, and I do not think that anyone else in this thread said that you were either. And most of us are on this site because we are all trying to lose weight, so we are all in the same boat (except for those amongst us who are in maintenance - but they still would have once been overweight), so no one here would have been engaging in the fat-shaming implied in your sign-off either. In fact, the post that incited so much opprobrium from some members was AGAINST fat-shaming.

Again, my posts have really gotten to you, which may explain why you have written such an attack. I do not need to prove anything to you about my education, because I am an honors graduate of one of the world's top schools AND educated in the school of life. Therefore, I do not need validation from anyone about my education. Perhaps you also believe that the people behind the scholarship that I cited previously are also uneducated. I do not think that they will be concerned that they are not meeting your lofty standards. OR, perhaps you are angry because I do not ascribe to the women-as-victim narrative that is part of the groupthink that is pushed on members of Western society. Well, I consider the variant of feminism that I ascribe to to be a branch humanism - which is about true equality between BOTH men and women, so I am ready to acknowledge that all women are not always nice, and that some of women can at times oppress other women and can (wait for it!) - even oppress men. Just ask any man who has been through the judicial system during a divorce and has had the majority of his income taken away from him. I am not saying that all of these men are innocent, because I do not know ALL OF THEM, but I bet that some of these men would also be able to tell you that the woman-as-victim narrative is not always true, and they just might have valid reasons for believing this. Perhaps, you will also think that those men are "uneducated" as well (or perhaps the poster who accused me of projecting will say that these men are also "projecting" when they view bank accounts that have been raided by what is in some instances legalized theft.). If that is the case, then I recommend that you read "Men on Strike," which is written by a woman. I believe that women should read this book to understand the perspectives of some men, and I recommend that men read "The Beauty Myth" to understand what women go through.

Am I stating that ALL women are terrible? No. Did I say that ALL overweight women were desperate? No. As someone who is herself trying to lose weight, I was speaking out against fat-shaming that is heaped on overweight people who exercise in public. As a woman, I am talking about the fact that not all women are as sweet and innocent as mainstream groupthink makes them out to be, and I at times experience nastiness when I go outside to exercise. It is true that I live in a city that is known for its rudeness and for aggressive people, and I am not saying that there aren't nasty or judgemental men out there who are rude to women who do not meet the societal standards described in "The Beauty Myth." However, I have the right to point out that some of the unkindness I experience when I exercise comes from the members of my own sex. As a feminist and as a humanist, this shocks and saddens me. If that offends you, or anyone else, that is too bad.

I am open to any advice that people have, but I have the right to defend myself from insults and attacks, when I was only sharing my perspective.

Hello, I have been running to lose weight, and also as a form of relaxation. It has worked well for both of these things. However, I am finding that my knees are now starting to hurt. Any advice about free forms of exercise that will help me to lose weight, but would not negatively impact my knees would be greatly appreciated.

    Eat less.

    Run with better form.

Swim some or ride a bike.
