Scientific proof that the food-mood connection is mostly in our heads.

Both a bummer & a good thing - I can't tell myself (as an emotional eater) that the food is "good" for me that way!
I dunno - how do you all feel?

There's a mellowing property to overeating simple carbs and sugar. Studies have shown that certain foods (usually high in sugar and refined carbs) effect the dopamine centers of the brain. I've used drugs, and I've used food as a drug...and in truth, the two feel remarkably similar (just my experience.)
That being said, I always remember the cliche: "when you use food to solve a problem, you not only don't solve the problem, you create another one". It has helped me get off that wagon.0
