Hello new friends!

Hello!

After one month on MFP, I realized that I never introduced myself.

At my heaviest, I was 325 lbs. There are loads of reasons why I ended up at 325, and even more reasons why I stayed there for so long. I could talk about all of them but they don't matter anymore. What matters is that my cycles of emotional eating and guilt-ridden binging are in the past. 27 lbs off of my body, 1000 lbs off of my shoulders.

It took time. So much more time than I expected. It started with very small changes. A lap around the parking lot at work. The next week, a lap every day. Eliminating sugary drinks. Drinking some water every day, then more water, then only water. Every victory was celebrated, no matter how small. Celebrations were no longer done with food. Sometimes I would write sticky notes to remind myself that yesterday was a win. There were mini dance parties in my kitchen or at my desk. 6 months later, I was on MFP tracking my calories.

Today the celebrations are bigger and better. Hiking the top of a mountain ridge. Wearing clothes that haven't fit in years. Seeing the number on the scale go down without starving myself. Looking in the mirror and liking the reflection a little more each day.

What MFP has taught me:
1. I do not have to give up the foods that I love to lose weight
2. Exercise does not have to be intense to be effective
3. Making changes is easier and more fun with friends

Reading the diaries and posts from my friends is a daily inspiration. If you are looking for a new friend, send a request!

Thanks for reading, and all the best to everyone on a journey to better health.

The way you write and express yourself reminds me of a few different people I know.

Incidentally they have each been very successful at this. I get the sense you will too. Take some really honest "before" pictures because you will need them for your "success stories" thread in about a year. :)
