Carbs...

Hey all!
About a year and half ago I started working on myself and being more healthy. A year in my family moved and I will admit I fell off the wagon and didn't make the best choices. I put about 10 lbs on and I'm working on getting my mojo back. For some reason this time around I'm having more trouble with carb cravings than I did last time. I was wondering if you guys had any ideas for some good carb recipes or foods that help you out.
Currently I do partake in pasta, white/sweet potatoes, rice, bread, and of course fruits and veggies but I'm looking to spice it up and get some new favorite go to recipes or meal ideas!
Thank you in advance for any food ideas or tips for overcoming the ferocious carb cravings!

Have you tried quinoa? It's got a slight nutty flavor, and you can make it sweet or savory. I don't shy away from carbs but it's a nice change of pace sometimes from the usual rice or pasta. It's also got some decent protein in it which may help keep people satiated for longer.
Another thought is tabouli on pita - http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/tabouli-recipe.html
I hate mint in tabouli so I always leave that out, but to each their own!0 -
You can get rid of the carb cravings by...not eating carbs...lol.
I realize it's not that simple! I would suggest that for a week, you limit your carb sources to fruits, vegetables, and plain greek yogurt. For a week, cut out the pasta, rice, sugar, bread, etc. See how that makes you feel. Don't shy away from fat, otherwise you won't get full. I think sometimes people make the mistake of eating low carb AND low fat. My typical dinner is a marinated baked chicken breast and a big salad with tomatoes, avocado, goat cheese, and whatever salad dressing (preferably one that is lower in sugar and carbs, but higher in fat). I would also suggest that you try limiting the fruit to blueberries, raspberries and blackberries. If you're having trouble with carb cravings, apples and bananas tend to be high in carbs, and eating these could trigger more cravings.
Oh and for lunch, I love a can of white albacore tuna, with mayonnaise and dill, with hot pepper rings and pickles slices. In a bowl, not between two slices of bread. In the morning, I drink unsweetened vanilla almond milk in my coffee instead of regular milk, much lower in carbs. Good luck!0 -
I like buckwheat groats ( cooks up kinda like rice). It is great as a sub for rice or potatoes.0
