Hey there. Working on setting up a proper home gym for doing SL:5x5. What are your thoughts on this set:

EDIT: D*ck's Sporting Goods link was censored... http://goo.gl/4HXhMj

I highly doubt I'll get anywhere close to 300lbs. and if I do I can always get a new bar. The weights can always be kept and used. I like how it has 2.5lb weights too.

What do you lifters think? Good for a noob?

You'll get to 300 lbs dead lifting a whole lot quicker than you think. Probably around 6 months.

I'd recommend checking out craigslist in your area. People are always selling used weight gear and you can get it much cheaper than on CL.

I recently got a 300 lb olympic set for $120 and it included the bench.

You do make a good point. Still $210 is not a bad deal for brand new 300lbs. worth of steel plates. Cheapest I can find for new plates of that amount is $302.

Sadly, I already checked. There is only one seller in my area and he wants to sell his bar/weights with a power rack that I don't like as a set.

I'm not buying immediately so I will keep looking around for deals. I forgot about the DL... Maybe that set isn't the best option as I just might get close to 300lb. faster than I thought. But if I get use out of this bar for ~6-12 months then I'd say it was worth it at the end of the day.

If you're serious about getting into lifting and sticking with it, then I'd suggest spending the $ on a good bar, which will cost about what that entire cheap-quality weight set costs ($200.00+). You can cheap out on weights but not on the bar. Just my $.02...

That bar obviously won't last long, but the price including the weight is damn cheap. Like you said - you can always upgrade the bar later on.

Tagging for myself. I might get this since it's so cheap. Although, my husband might have other ideas.
