A sound plan?

When I first started with MFP, I did what most seem to do and set my weight loss goals as high as possible and was given the dreaded 1200. I tried that for maybe two days and realized that I wasn't going to be able to stick to it. I played with my numbers, read the forums, found new calculators to determine my TDEE and started upping my calories.

What I ended up with was finding what my TDEE will be when I reach my goal weight and that's where I set my daily input. It's 1546 which is a reasonable amount to eat, keeps me from feeling deprived and it's a level that I know I can continue indefinitely. I know that my weight loss will slow down as I near that goal weight and I'm fine with that. I have been doing a bit of calorie cycling, not outright planned or with set days but there are some I'm under, others that I'm over and I look at the weekly average to make sure I'm keeping at that approximate intake.

My question is, does this sound like a reasonable plan? Has anyone else tried this and had success? Are there any valid reasons that this wouldn't work?

Sounds good to me. You can always readjust when you're close to your goal.

Seems logical. Try it and see.

That's exactly how the calculator at fat2fitradio.com works. It sets your daily calorie amount at what it will be when you're at your goal weight, so as you move through the process your body adjusts to this calorie level and you have less risk of feeling deprived by lowering your calories as you lose.
