Can I actually tone a post pregnancy belly, is there a way?

Hey guys and gals,

even though I had my son a while back, I have managed to lose around 7 stone over time with healthy eating and exercise, I am now looking to tone and build some muscle.

I have noticed the more I work, my belly is getting smaller, my arms, thighs and bum so i know what i'm doing (weightlifting) is working. Should I just keep going with the weight lifting or is there anything else i can add to help tone these areas? Espesh' my lower belly. I am not looking for a quick fix and do not expect to have a six pack in 3 weeks etc but would be nice to tone up these areas.

Any advice please???? :)

Core work such as pilates or yoga is the best way to tone abs. It does take time, though.

Cut fat, build muscle. You can't really do both at the same time, but I would start cutting, and get well acquainted with a bar bell. Deadlifts and front squats are great for the core muscles, and pull ups are great for the abs.

Thanks guys! I am trying my best to follow a low fat (some good fats) no sugar cutting style diet. I am a student so have to change it round a tad due to money. Been eating plenty of chicken, fish, salad, veggies, small amount of olive oil and green tea. :) hopefully I can find some part time work to help buy more cutting style foods and more varied!

I have also been given some free weights and a weights bench, already have 2 bars, kettlebells, free weights, dumbells and boxing equipment so am just learning technique and all the moves :) ha!

Again, hopefully i can join in gym with more options soon but for now, i will stick to what I'm doing ( got a lot of advice off bodybuilding.com).

Thank you for your advice guys! Very much appreciated and will look into it :)

When I had my son, sit-ups and crunches were advised. I don't know what they say now.

I'm sure many people get right back to where they were. I've heard it a lot, so I believe it.

My abdomen (much like my bladder control and hemorrhoids) has never been the same. Close, but never got all the way back down.

Just one of the many joys of parenthood. ;)

Congrats on the new baby. :)

You can't spot reduce. Just keep up the great work, and your stomach will eventually get smaller—along with the rest of you.

Also, check out ma friend. She's had a kid and so have I. You can do it! Just patience. Lift heavy. Take weight loss at a moderate pace. Get a good amount of protein.

read the sexy pants link and this one.

I have what is very close to a flat stomach after a year of weightlifting. I lifted throughout my 9 months of losing 53 lbs after my second son back on June 20th 2013. My stomach was the very last place I lost from. Literally. The rest of me shrunk but my genetics did not want to lose much from my lower stomach until the last 10 or 15 lbs.
