Leg Press

I recently started using the free weight leg press machine as opposed to the circuit leg press machine at the gym. I liked it until the 3rd day and I screwed up my knee. I was sure I was using it correctly and only 45 pounds since I am older and have bad knees. It's like a have a varicose vein popping out over my knee cap. Is this something that is harder on your knees then the circuit machine and why would that be. I was thinking it seemed to support my back more and I was careful to stay at a 90 degree and not lock my knees.

So obviously I am done doing any leg presses for awhile while the knee gets better but was this a fluke or should some older people just stay away from them.

i use the leg press several times a week (maybe three depending on how hard i worked), but never back to back days. did you do this exercise three days in a row? i give my legs a few days off and work another body part when strength training. my quads are screaming at me now from monday's workout.
  • I'm not an expert but strength training is about tear and repair, that's how the muscles grow. If you did this back to back for 3 days you tore for 3 days and did not leave a day in between for repair. Bummer about the knee, that has to hurt.

no back to back on these--alternate days and different routines on the alternate days for less chance of injury or warranties expiring...

    hope you're feeling better soon!
