Question Regarding Plateaus

I haven't hit one yet but I do expect to hit one in the near(ish) future... so I have a question about them. I saw mentioned somewhere that one way to beat a plateau is to work at maintenance for awhile (deliberately) and then go back to deficit again. Would that actually work?
Example:
1,520 is what I'm supposed to be meeting, with a 500 calorie deficit.
In theory, this means my maintenance is roughly 1,950 calories, giving wiggle-room for the fact that MFP is a little generous with their numbers, yes?
So if I'm losing weight and then plateau at the 1,520... would it be safe to eat at 1,900 for a month or two and then drop back to 1,520? Would that help beat the plateau?

That can definitely work but don't do it for a month! Just a day or two should kickstart things again!0
