Making the switch to healthy food

I am trying to find replacements for treats that my kids have had all of their lives. I have never really been one to cook out of a box but they have still gotten used to things that, now that I examine lables, have way to much sugar and way too many chemicals.

Take Rice Crispies for example, the second ingredient is sugar! My sone would live on rice krispies if I would let him, but I really dont think all the sugar is doing anything for his ADD.

any suggestions?

Strangely, I've often (but not always - still make sure you read the labels to check!) found that the supermarket "value" range foods are lower in added sugar, salt and fat than the "premium" range foods. I assume this is because not adding the extra sugar/salt/fat makes it cheaper?

Also, I would strongly advise that where possible, instead of trying to find acceptable alternative foods (e.g. healthier rice crispies) instead try completely different foods, such as omlettes, fruit and yogurt or bake some breakfast muffins in advance. This is likelyto go down better as they won;t feel that they're eating a *fake* version of the food they want. And of course, there's no reason why you and the kids can't still have your favourite foods, just limit them (perhaps to the weekends?).
