Is there any point in seeing a doctor about injury?

I injured my knee at some point - last Tuesday, I believe. Thought nothing of the initial pain because I often get unexplainable aches and pains, and went for a jog the following day. About an hour later, the pain got really bad and I decided it probably really was an injury, caused by jogging on Monday. I've tried to rest it as much as possible, iced it, taken Ibuprofen for a few days in a row... it alleviates the pain but it comes back eventually, and not any better than before. I haven't done any strength exercises or jogging since Wednesday and it's really getting annoying.
I'm wondering whether to see a doctor, because it's probably not anything serious, but I wouldn't know - but can they really do anything at all other than tell me to rest and take painkillers? Would really like an idea of how long it's going to take to get better...

I don't mess around with knees, I have seen them go and wondered what exactly happened to the poor guy, it can be the slightest movement on the slightest of a misaligned joint and for some reason they just go. I'm also not the type to go to the doctor, so, it's a toss up for me.
