Hello there,

My name is Jessica. I'm new to MFP and I really enjoy it. :) With previous meal/exercise tracking sites I was never really active about it. Last year I had managed to lose near 40 pounds in a half a year, but then college started again and life became too hectic for constant gym and food tracking.

I'm not looking for a slight change anymore. I've been the 'chubby' girl for too long. Nothing has ever fit the right way and I really want a lifestyle overhaul (one that I can stick with). It's been difficult because of classes, but I've realized now that I either change or I can keep looking longingly at clothes I can never wear.

It's time to put these wishes into action, and I after my last diet and exercise excursion I know that I could use a little motivation and friend support from others going through the same thing.

Nice to meet you and I hope we can help each other! :D

I completely agree. That is why I am here-I don't want to be the "chubby" girl anymore either! This is my third day here-and so far I am staying on track. I hope that continues! I also need all the help and encouragement that I can get!

You can do it! I know that going to school and dieting is hard-because when I go to class I like to have a snack. Next week I will be going back and will have to step away from the snacking!!

We CAN Do this! We can fit in smaller clothes!!

I am in the same boat you are. I have a hard time staying motivated with all the things going on my life right now. I have a full time job in which my schedule varies from week to week, 2 very active children, whose sports keep us busy at night, and am married so I have a husband to attend to as well. My house gets neglected also because of this busy lifestyle we have going right now, but things are about to slow down with the sports, so now I can get back to working on my house and keeping up with my workouts! I am starting fresh on Monday and am setting a goal for myself to workout each morning next week, to try to get into that routine so I can stick to it. The eating healthy is also an issue because it just seems so expensive but I am trying to watch my portions and eat as healthy as I can when I can. Good luck in your endeavor and we are here for support when you need it!

You can still have snacks when you go to class, just make them healthy choices, like a fruit or veggie. I like to snack on healthy items throughout the day just to try to keep my metabolism in check. Just a suggestion & good luck with your journey!

Hi there Jessica and welcome to the site! I only really started my diet yesterday but so far its ok! Im in need of some support to so if you want to add me as a friend please feel free!
My biggest problem at the moment is that I own a bar and every night I have to be sociable and have a few drinks. Also I tend to just eat one big meal a day and then thats it. I am going to try and "graze" throughout the day now as my sister used to be then same size as me and she started grazing and now she is tiny. So that is the plan. Let me know what your strategy is going to be and if anyone has any tips please help!!
Good luck and it seems that you are a very motivated person anyway so here's hoping we can help each other!
    Beth :)

Welcome, I can assure you, you will stick to MFP. I'm in college myself and It is hard to find a way to keep track of both work and dieting, but this site is so handy with it also being available on my phone that I always find a way to keep track.

    Good luck :)
  • Hello all,
My name is Claire and I have just finished my BA (Hons) in Modern Languages. After four years of stress (!) my weight has gone up and up. I booked some sessions with a personal trainer (special deal) and she weighed and measured me. According to the measurements I am clinically obese with a BMI of 31. How I cried that night! But it changed something in me. I don't want to be obese! I'm only 29! So now I am eating healthily and exercising every day. I have also cut out alcohol completely and am missing it like mad!

If anybody ever needs any support, I am always here to help. It's great to have a rant!

    Claire
  • Oh thank you all for your support and feedback! :D This is wonderful.

It's nice to see others who know what it's like, and even better to exchange support and help. :)

Small tips that have helped me in the past:

    - Premake snack bags for your day if you know you'll be out and about (and even if not). Put the recommended serving of pretzels or trail mix in a Ziploc bag; I like to put in a Special K bar too for those times when I just need a pick me up. Take a sharpie and write the calories on the bag so you know what you can have later if you forget to log it right away!

    - It's really hard to eat properly when you're busy (I'm hardly at home), but I try to get to bed early, and wake up at least 30 minutes early and make a proper breakfast. Eggs and toast only take a max of 7 minutes to make, and oatmeal can be made in the microwave! Most important meal of the day, don't forget. :)

If you have any on-the-go tips or anything feel free to share!

Yesterday a friend called me chubby. The worst part is that it wasn't in a bad way because he acted like I knew it and that I was OK with it. I have never thought of myself that way. I have always been small. For me loosing weight is about being healthy, fighting my genetics, and making good habits for life. I have gained about 20 lbs in the last year and I would like to get it off. I am 5'3" and have a small build to begin with. Yes it is hard to me to find clothes that fit the way I want. I'd like to get back to 120 lbs, but I think my birth control patch is not helping. I really don't want to change birth control because I like the convenience of the patch and I know most other birth control pills (etc...) will have the same effect anyway.

I'm loving MFP and how easy it is to find the foods I eat. I also like the message boards and the clarification about eating back the exercise calories.

When I weighed myself this morning I was not happy and distracted for a while. I spoke with by awesome BF and he was very supportive. He needs to loose some weight too and I think he is more excited about working together on this than I am. I prefer to do things alone but that is obviously not working. So I'm up for a change.

    Bring on the holidays.

I'm like you, I enjoy just doing it myself; it's great that your boyfriend is supportive, it's always nice to have someone there cheering you on. My boyfriend has been helpful, and excited too. He and I cut soda out of our diet, and he's willing to help me if I need someone to exercise with.

You should try new things and see where it takes you. :)
