Burning extra calories tips!

Think about your trip to the grocery store, department store, work, etc..... Before you even walk in, you are looking for what?.... A parking spot! Do you go around and around trying to find the closest spot? Next time you pull into a parking lot, just find 'ANY' spot.
(Please note that I am not telling you to park a mile from your destination!)
Just find a spot which will probably be further than where you would normally park and walk inside! Simple and those extra steps you walk can really add up :) Not only are you walking further to the building, but back to your car as well!
Bonus points if you are carrying/pushing something/someone lol!

If you have kids or a disability of any kind, please note that I understand this trick/tip might not be attainable :)

Anymore tips for easy ways to burn more calories daily?

I work a desk job and I make sure that I stand up ALOT and just move. While on the phone, I might dance a little, or do a couple squats... yes people think I'm crazy, and no I don't care!

Just bought a new car and I'm terrified that somebody is going to hit it in the parking lot at school so I park it as far away as possible!! Good incentive huh??!

When you are surfing the internet (or logging on MFP) do it standing up and walk on the spot... Think of other things you can do standing up instead of sitting...

A common tip I always follow is choosing stairs over lifts/escalators. It did hurt when trying to navigate the London Underground with steps when available, some of those flights are long! Obviously this is a lot harder for people who live or work on the 72nd floor or something! But you could take the lift to a couple floors away and walk the rest (if safe).

When I am cooking for the family I have been known to grab a couple of cans of tinned beans and do some bicep curls etc and squats in between stirring the pot lol leg raisers, side lunges anything I can do safely in the kitchen. Since I got into loosing weight and MFP I always seem to have my core engaged, it is all those workout videos I do and the instructor is always saying keep that core engaged and i can't stop it even when I am not working out hahaha

Building on your grocery store tip, once you walk inside do a lap around the store before you start shopping. You might be able to scope out a few specials while you go.

I work a desk job and before I got my FitBit, I took about 1200 steps a day :frown: Now I have an alarm on my phone to go off every 45 minutes. The first time it goes off I walk to the farthest bathroom (even if I don't have to go). The next time it goes off I go outside and walk a lap around my building. The whole lap takes less than 6 minutes from the time I stand up to the time I sit back down. By cycling through that every 45 minutes, I end up with 11,000 steps every day.

    Edited for spelling

Im on vacation this week at the beach. I fast walk the beach each day for about 30 mins instead on sitting around getting a tan. My condo is on the 3rd floor. Unless I have stuff to carry up, I have been taking the stairs. While on vacation, Im taking a break from the 5k jog, but, I did go to the pool in the morning and do 30 mins of light swimming which I enjoy. According to my Endomondo sync to MFP, I burned about 350 cals.

I drink about 1.5 litres of water at the office plus a couple of coffee's.....so yeah..... I go to the bathroom about 20 times a day lol.

I have a bathroom right next to my office but instead of that one (unless desperate) I go along the corridoor, down the stairs, back along the corridoor and use the bathroom directly under the one next to my office.

I think little things like this do add up over time.

Also I do all my family's ironing and clothes folding in the kitchen. I used to fill my arms with as much as I could to save on trips upstairs. But now I will take all my youngest sons things up, then come back down for my eldest son and take those up and repeat for my things, hubby's and then one last time for bedding and towels.

Take the long way to the bathroom. Drink lots more - causes you to need to pee more so more trips to the bathroom.

I have been known to do 10 pushups every time I go to the bathroom... was working on 100 a day so it really helped :)

Any time you can, stand instead of sit. Uses more muscles. Pacing while on the phone, etc.

Things I've done to add in more steps/movement:

I park at the back of the parking lot at work every day.
I take the stairs instead of the elevator and even though it's only 2 flights, I feel better for doing it.
I use the downstairs bathroom so I have to take the stairs more often and with the added water I'm drinking, it's pretty often
Shopping/theater/etc, I always park in the back 40, even when my friends who go with me b****. It does us all good.
I no longer use escalators at the mall and airport. Stairs every time.
I sometimes do squats in the break room if it's empty.
I walk to the post office from work on breaks if I have to mail anything. It's almost a mile there and back.
Cleaning up at home is now done more often.

And probably more things I'm not thinking of at the moment. I don't have a cubicle at work, so the standing and dancing thing is too weird for my boss and co-workers, but if I ever get my own office, I would so do it!!
