Difficult Situation with Hated Food

I've gone to my boyfriend's parents house for dinner a few times. Each time, his Mom makes something with bleu cheese, whether it is salad or in the main course. I've choked it down a few times, but it makes me want to vomit and the taste makes me sweaty and uneasy. How do I handle this now? By the way, I'm 28, he's 42 so I'm not a teenager and I shouldn't be acting this way but I can't tolerate it any longer. They live out of state so it's a rare occasion and I'm not close to them.

Thanks.

Um. Tell them you don't like it?

    3 options:

    - tell them you don't care for it
    - tell your boyfriend to tell them you don't care for it
    - suffer through it

My wife's mom makes a plumb pudding with brandy butter every holiday...everyone loves it...I hate it...I simply say "no thank you, I don't care for plumb pudding and brandy butter" when it comes around. No biggie...

This. Make it a funny thing....that's what I do with my boyfriend's parent.Tell them that you try and try and you still can't do bleu cheese but that you'll try again in 6 months and see if your taste buds have changed :p

I don't see what the difficult situation is... Just tell them you don't care for blue cheese. Unless they made the blue cheese from scratch, and slaved over it for weeks in a cheese cave because they thought you loved it I highly doubt they are going to be offended....

How is it difficult to say you don't care for something?

It's ok to tell Mom you don't like it. If she keeps doing it then that's a sign :P

Well, the BF knows his mom better than anyone, I suppose, so I'd ask him first. Not in a please-find-a-way-to-tell-your-mom-blue-cheese-tastes-like-puke kind of way, but about which approach would be best.

Failing that, I'd just politely pass on the offending item, stating that I can't do blue cheese, but the other food looks wonderful and I'll be fine.

All families have some members who can't eat certain foods. My grandma had a couple allergies, so we coded the food Kosher and Non-Kosher, depending on whether Grandma could eat it. My brother-in-law can't tolerate walnuts, and I don't like them, so whenever I bake for a gathering, I tell him I used pecans or filberts and he's thrilled that I thought of him.

Oooh, my English/Welsh BF would love me forever if I make plum pudding with brandy butter. Can you get the recipe?

    This!

Or, just throw it on the ground ;-)
