Snacking on the road - avoiding those cravings

One of my weaknesses in keeping a solid regime is when my work sends me on the road. This means driving three or more hours at a stretch down the highway to remote client locations. In turn, this leaves me getting tired behind the wheel.

I don't drink or like coffee or tea, and other drinks with caffeine don't help much. For me, the best way I found of staying alert while driving is to keep the mouth moving - and I can't sing forever, so chewing on something on was the simplest way of doing it. When I was on the road a whole lot more as part of my job, the car would have an ample supply of snackables; so between that and my lack of exercise at the time it was certainly a big factor in my weight gain.

These days I'm at the weight I wan to be at and have been considering options for maintenance, and the road trips for work are thankfully more rare. However, for the first time since I got married I'm heading on a road trip to a family reunion - sixteen hours away. So in advance of all that time on the road, I'm wondering what people do, or can do, to avoid snacking their way back upwards in poundage? I guess making sure that the snackables are HEALTHIER, like carrots or snap peas or what have you, will be a start...

    Having snacks on hand - good idea. But if this is for a family reunion, hopefully you're not driving alone? Conversation, road games and perhaps taking turns driving if another adult is going. Switch off every hour or so.
