Suggestions for new HRM?

So for about a year, I had a Polar FT4. It worked well mostly until a few weeks back when it stopped picking up signal in the middle of workouts and no matter what I did, it just would read for a while, then stop. I replaced the battery today to still no avail, as it kept saying "Check heart rate transmitter," so I've given up on that.
I also bought a Fitbit Flex when they were on sale recently, but the battery kept draining after only a few hours or overnight when it's supposed to last five days. I had to send it back today for a refund, as the place I ordered it from had no replacements in stock.
So right now, I have nothing to measure my activity level and need to figure out what to get because I am not very good at estimating. What would you guys suggest? Is there another Polar model I could try, or would you suggest a different brand altogether? I'm all ears, but I can't afford to spend hundreds of dollars or anything.

I bought a new Polar strap for 18 bucks. The old one was indeed crap, as evidenced by the fact that when I would accidentally use it, I'd start having the same problems again. Also no matter what you get, if it has a chest strap, rinse it after every use, since the salt build up can really mess with its ability to function properly

I don't think just a strap will help me. There is no signal to my watch at all. Seems like I would need to replace the sensor too.
Anyone else?0 -
I hac a Polar H4 and started having problems with it as well. That was a few years ago. I ended up playing around with it for 15 minutes while the class was going on. So I stopped using it.
Now a couple of years later, I bought the Polar H7 and have found it really easy to work with. It has a lot of bells and whistles on it that I don't need, or know how to access, and don't know what they are as well.lol. However, I just press the start button once (I think) and it starts goin, then I press the end button twoice and it stops when I'm finished. I get my heart rate and number of calories burned, and I don't even care about anything except how many calories I burned :-) It was really easy to set up al the default information it wanted.0
