Nutritionist/Registered Dietitian-have you been to one?

I am not losing (i never lose and have been changing my eating habits over the course of years and really knuckled down 2 yrs ago and my weight stays at exactly 160, give or take {i say this because my scale says 160 and my doc's says 167}.
So i went to a Nutritionist/Reg Dietitian- her only thought was that my metabolism had slowed. she had me eat a little more (and i gained about 3 pounds).
i kept asking her for her Plan and she was evasive. She said we 'would have to try different things' and if my upcoming blood panel (which was totally normal, NO thyroid issue) said i was fine, i should try to get Synthroid anyway (my doc logically said Hale No) and at my last appt (i went for a month and a half), she said 'how much did i want to lose' and she kept scaling back leaving me thinking i was going to get a 5 pound loss from my working w her. Then she went on a six week vacation and i never went back. she was thin herself and has 20 yrs experience so i didn't find her at a lemonade shack on a street corner, ie, she seemed reputable.....
so my question, are all of them this 'helpful'? Should i go to a different one?have you been to one and were they helpful?
Right now, i am considering a $$ personal trainer wherein i will be exercising until i drop because the food part of my life isn't getting the job done.

Bad grammar makes it hard to read. BTW, a nutritionist is not the same thing as a Registered Dietician. The latter has to have formal education and certification.

No, I'm not sure what the benefit would be that I can't manage on my own. If I were frustrated and wanted help and didn't think I could figure it out, I'd perhaps seek out an RD, not just a nutritionist.

Did your doctor recommend this first person? If no, I'd ask him to give you a referral to someone he trusts and knows is reputable.
Telling you to ask for medication when you don't need it is out of bounds and not something a dietician should be suggesting.

Went to a registered dietitian once - she was a complete waste of time. I agree with above - check with your doctor or other people in your area to find one that they recommend.

Went to one offered by the Air Force. She looked at my medical records, wrote out a plan, and sent me here.

Same with my boyfriend. His nutritionist, who was referred by his doctor, taught him about how much he needs to eat to maintain, told him to eat a certain amount less to lose 1 pounds a week, and praised food logging and MFP to the high heavens.

As for me, no, I have not been to a dietician or nutritionist, but I would choose the nutritionist first, and it would have to be a referral from my doctor.

Saw one as part of my failed gastric bypass surgery, biggest waste of time. She worked for the hospital but was the one person that my insurance wouldn't pay for even though they demanded me to see her. I'd talk to your doctor and find someone trustworthy, this one shouldn't have been telling you to ask for meds

I was referred to one after I lost a lot of weight very quickly, lost my period, and was suspected of having an ED diagnosis. This woman asked me if I threw up(no), if I had any forbidden foods(yes), and weighed me then tested my body fat. She then asked me to come back the following week (all the while I was still doing things I know now are not good like weighing myself five times a day and spitting out food) and even though my period had yet to return said "well, I guess its OK because you gained two pounds." Never again.

To clarify, she was a registered dietitian and a nutritionist. My doctor had no referrals after i told her i went to this person and got no help.
