I was just wondering how accurate the numbers are in the database. Should I use them or is there another resource that is more accurate?
Thanks:)

You will get a lot of answers telling you they are not at all. The real answer is - it depends.
Keep in mind that all sources are estimates even the much beloved HRM.
For moderate intensity steady state cardio, HRMs can be pretty good, outside of that, they are not.
For things like walking and running, the energy requirements are well researched and fairly accurate if you have data like distance, time and weight.
For things that are less predictable or have more variables, accuracy goes down. Entries in the database here for things like elliptical don't take into account resistance or speed. Entries like aerobics are also problematic because it can't account for intensity.
Here are a couple of good blogs that lay it out pretty well

It is pretty difficult to find the exact number outside of a lab. You can invest in a HRM if you have the money and the majority of workouts fall under their parameters. However, my own opinion is that you don't need equipment, you don't need complete accuracy, consistentcy will do. Choose a source, follow it for a few weeks, if your weight goes down, it's working. If not, adjust a bit.
I've had much success using only MFP numbers.0 -
