race question

Hi
I want to run a 10K and I feel like I would do better if I planned my pace for the first 2 thirds and then ran the rest as fast as possible. However - what do I use to check my pace during the race? Smartphone app? Just the clock? Anything else? How do you do that?

Well, a GPS watch would make it easy, but, if you aren't ready for that kind of investment, you can use the clock if there are clocks at the checkpoints along the course. However, in my experience, most 10ks don't have clocks except the start and finish one. You could use an app like Nike that will tell you your pace as you run and you can set it to tell you at half mile intervals or whatever.

A GPS watch works nicely for that. But I also use endomondo app on my phone occasionally. It will tell you how fast you are going at each mile.

You can use a smartphone app like RunDouble. I set mine to update me every 5 minutes with my average pace and total distance run.

GPS watch it good. I highly recommend Soleus, it's inexpensive, fashionable, and highly accurate. Plus you don't have to carry around a bulky phone or wear an incredibly bulked out watch.
Also don't go out too fast. Practice on keeping the upper body relaxed.
