So it has gotten colder here in the NY area. I am still trying to get my hourly 4.0 mile walk in, but I keep having this issue. Now as I am about 45 minutes into my walk, I suddenly have to use the restroom. Unfortunately I'm walking around outside, so the availability of actual restrooms is not as plentiful as I would like, and none of the restrooms are really usable. I end up taking a quick trip to my apartment (as I walk in a loop) and once I'm done, I just don't feel that it is worth it to go back out there.
Sure I could just tell myself to stop using this as an excuse, but I'm wondering if there is anything else I should do. In the summer I had to hydrate a lot more as it was hot. Should I drink less water in the morning before my walk? Or will that be an issue?

Well that kind of depends, how long are you up before you go for your walk? How much water are you drinking in the morning before the walk? The obvious answer would probably be to drink less water before walking and drink more when your around "useable" toilets. But if your not drinking that much water to begin with in the morning maybe postponing your walk until you feel like it's all out of your system?
That's all I can come up with! Good luck!0 -

Doesn't hurt to try it. Or maybe change up your walk so that you walk near a useable public restroom, if you can.0 -
If that was me, I would only have a small sip of any liquid before I commit to going any distance without being near a restroom. I live out in the sticks, so the nearest hedge would do! But seriously, you can always drink when you get back. Hope this helps.0

Duck into an alley or behind a bush? You're a guy, you can pull it off lol Lol sorry that's my only suggestion. I have the same problem with needing to pee all the time because I drink so much water (for example I just drank 3/4L of water in half an hour lol)0

I stop drinking 30 minutes before my hour long walk and use the bathroom the SECOND before I walk out the door. Sometimes I have the urge to go during my walk, but I'm never DESPERATE to go when I employ these two techniques.

Great advice, and good point. I hear to drink 8 oz of water 30 minutes before you work out, go to the bathroom, then workout! So when you get up in the morning, drink a glass of water, then start getting ready, changing, whatever, and by that time, go to the bathroom and out you go!

Also, it won't "be an issue" to drink less water - like someone else said, you can drink water when you get back. Since it's only a walk and not running a marathon, you should be absolutely fine with drinking a glass of water beforehand, and then filling back up after your walk!0

start trying less water right before you walk. I assume since it's colder you are sweating less and your body is not using that extra water. Go to the restroom right before you leave. Your body is usually ready to release excess fluid about 20 mins after you drink them. I have the same problem but I think I just have a weak bladder. Hope that helps a little.0

When you have to go, turn your walk into a jog... I bet that will help burn some more calories!0

Just leave 15 minutes earlier and you'll get the whole walk in before you have to go  (I'm joking by the way....)0

Hmmmm.....are we talking about bowels or bladder???
I know sometimes it's the bowels and well, hard to slip behind a bush for that, lol I just think it has a lot to do with the excercise stimulating the muscles....not sure what can be done about that, unless you can change your routine around.....
If WE are talking about bladder, then just disregard the above, lol0 -
i realize it's a morning walk...are you eating breakfast before you walk? drinking coffee? if not...then i would make one 8 oz your first priority. then get ready to head out. also, take an 8 oz bottle with you. you NEED to have enough fluids in your body....the biggest obstacle with working out first thing in the morning. sip on your 8 oz of water while you walk. if this still causes you to have issues, i would seek a doctor's advice.

I think that you should drink less water. In the summer, you're sweating the water out. In this cooler weather, you're not. Try drinking just enough to give you a little hydration and see if it helps.0

Have maybe 8oz. about 15-20 minutes before your walk. Use the bathroom right before walking out the door, and bring a bottle with you, if you think you'll really need it, but try not to sip on it too much til the second half of your walk.0

in the winter when i have to take the dog out in the evenings or in the middle of the night, i always have to pee by time i get back in. it has to do with muscles naturally constricting when they're cold. i think my bladder shivers just as much as the rest of me. Also, your body has to work to keep urine at body temperature. i don't know this scientifically, but maybe it's a body warmth defense to get rid of that water it is wasting energy on keeping warm?0

Suck it up.....:)0
