I set small goals along the way (with occasional non-food rewards) so that I would push on without getting discouraged at how far there was left to go. Sometimes the goal was to celebrate every time I hit a zero in my weight (so 190, 180, 170, etc.) Sometimes it was a five pound goal, sometimes it was to fit into some old clothes, sometimes it was fitness related, sometimes I had more than one goal going at once. Anything to break it down into more manageable time periods.

Small goals, and things that I could stick to. I found if I was having trouble sticking with it, I was generally doing something that wasn't right for me. For example I started with a 2lbs a week goal, putting me at 1200. I couldn't stick with it for very long so I set it to 1 lbs a week and I stuck with that no problem (I recently set it to 0.5 lbs a week for the same reason).
