Ok, starting resistance training?

So, I only have a little weight left to lose, and I'm interested in strength training. I work best with progressive challenges, so I'm thinking of doing some of those apps that, for example, have you do a few more push-ups every day until you get to a hundred. Any opinions on whether that's a good way to start? Would it be best to do just one at a time, or can I do push-ups, pull-ups, sit-ups, and squats, and if so, would I do them all on the same day? Finally, what's the best app? The Runtastic ones look good, but is there one that's all-in-one?
(I don't have a gym membership, so I'll be doing this at home on my own.)

Alright, I wouldn't do them all in one day, and I wouldn't do them all every single day, and here's why:
Muscle groups need time to recover
Okay, that's the only explanation I got lol
I think what you ought do is designate one day for "upper body" (push-ups, bench dips), and the next day for "lower body"(squats, lunges), and alternate days, so you always give your muscles time to rest in between. Abs (sit-ups, crunches) can be hit more often, because they need less time to recover, since they're being engaged no matter what we do.0 -
If you're going to do body weight progressions, then something like You Are Your Own Gym (think it has an app, too) or Convict Conditioning would be the place to start.0

As jimmer said, You Are Your Own Gym (and its sister book, Body By You) are good body weight programs.
If you have access to a gym, the programs are simpler, but you have to hit the free weights.

Whatever strength training you do, pay close attention to the progression and de-load/failure rules. If you're not progressing, you're not doing strength training. And reaching failure is part of the process.0 -
I purchased the You Are Your Own Gym app, and it looks fantastic. Thanks!0
