HRM for a guy?

DH and I finally had "the chat." He thinks he wants a HRM. The HRM in this case, would be more to keep track of the heart rate than it would be to monitor calorie burn.

I know they make $500 Garmins that go on the wrist, but that's out of the budget at the moment.

So, that being said, for the guys who DO use a HRM, which one do you use and if you have a lil bit of chest hair (not a carpet) does your HRM require you shave your chest or does the chest hair not matter?

Hi...if you can afford it, I can recommend Garmin Vivofit with a HRM. The Vivofit tracks your steps and sleep, etc and the Garmin Connect app syncs with myfitnesspal. Can use the HRM with it when you are exercising. The Vivofit doesn't show you how far/fast/etc you are moving, but does the job quite well otherwise. There are reasonable sports watches around with HRM as well. never mind the chest hair.....works well enough with or without.
  • There's a well-reviewed HRM by Scosche, the Rhythm+, that fits on the upper-arm that's under $100: http://www.scosche.com/rhythm+

For chest-strap variants, there are many good ones, from Polar, Wahoo, 4iiii, etc.
