Can you work out in the morning before a colonoscopy?

I wish I didn't have this question, but I'm having a colonoscopy next week and I wondered if I could do a Body Pump class in the morning before the procedure. I was planning to go, but someone said that it may not be a good idea because of not really eating the day before.
Anybody been through one that could help?

I would call the doctor's office to check.
It would probably be o.k.0 -
I have not had this experience, but my husband has...he was pretty miserable after drinking that stuff....like, pooping all night0
-
I wouldn't do it. I've been through a colonoscopy and the prep work takes a LOT out of you.0
-
If your drinking bowel cleanser before you go then I wouldn't think you'd feel up to it but other than that, no reason why not.0

I would guess that yoga would be fine but I wouldn't do anything even remotely strenuous. Your body will have lost a lot of fluid and electrolytes. It would not be a good idea to do a tough workout!
Sorry!0 -
You can't eat or drink after the cleanse and before the colonoscopy, so no. At least it wouldn't be a very smart thing to do. I'm pretty sure you'll wake up that morning and not want to do it anyway. Sh!tting for hours (literally) is not a good time.0

Well...
No.

Thanks for the replies. Probably not a good idea to lift weights.....
Sooooo looking forward to this. More humiliation from turning 50.0 -

I had this humilation a couple years ago at 22.0 -
LOl, after you've done the prep, whether or not you can workout will not be an issue. You will not feel like it AT ALL.
When the day arrives, you'll understand.
But call the office and ask.
...and be glad you made it to 50 without having had to do it. Not everyone is so lucky, KWIM?0 -
Actually it is not that bad.
You will get a sedative and whatever you remember will be more like the remembrance of a dream.
And it is not really humiliating.
Just be thankful for the opportunity :-)0 -

It's the prep. The night before. That's the thing that sucks.
But don't cancel or anything because you're worried about the test. I hope we didn't scare you off!0 -
As some have said, the prep is worse than the procedure.
My exam has always been in the morning, so there was no time to exercise before.
After, you won't feel up to par for a while.
I don't think it would do any harm, but I'd take a day off.0 -
Just went through the colonoscopy deal 3-4 weeks ago. The procedure was a piece of cake. The prep wasn't nearly as awful as I had feared from all those who had gone before me told me it would be. But yeaaaah....Body Pump will take on an entirely new meaning if you try to go do that class after all the laxatives you've had to ingest leading up to the procedure!!!:laugh::bigsmile::laugh::laugh:0

Why doesn't everyone get the pills?! I don't know. I was so pissed when I found out about the pills. Next time, I'm asking for them.0 -
I would be afraid that the purge might not quite be over! Maybe a good idea to skip that day??0
-
Wait for the prep, Sweetie. Your body will *pump* all right.... (!) On the plus side, it's the best sleep ever.0
-
Don't do that! You can't drink anything prior to surgery, and I am certain they won't want you more dehydrated than you already are.0
-
Just posed this question to my husband who has to get them every few years to monitor his Crohn's... his comment, I quote, "Considering you can't even drink water before the procedure, it's probably not the best idea"0

My dear, you will not want to risk the chance of liquid poo running down your leg.
And you'll be pretty empty, so I do not recommend it.
Before my colonoscopy, I did not even want to get in the car.0 -
You've already gotten good advice. Good luck on your procedure.0

Pretty much this. I keep having to run to the bathroom all night and up until the procedure itself usually (I've had a couple colonoscopies). Stock up on good bathroom reading material, that's my advice.0 -
I'd recommend not...
Main reason is that the procedure forces you to "clean out" the day beforehand. Regret to say I have firsthand experience with this...I was still going a lot the day of the procedure (mine was in the morning). Not only that, but the procedure is fasting, so you might not have much energy to be exercising AND you couldn't take in any fast acting carb or protein after exercise for recovery.
One day won't kill you. I'd recommend taking the day to rest.0 -

And don't forget good, gentle toilet paper. Get rid of the generic and squeeze the Charmin' for the night.
Be at home near the bathroom when you take the first dose of the stuff. Do not plan to go more than 20 feet from a bathroom for the next few hours. Relax, you will not actually sh-t your brains out. The first dose may take a few minutes to start the festivities or wait a few hours before the show starts. Mine started almost instantaneously, hubby's bod waited until the middle of the night to get going so he saw lots of infomercials he didn't know existed. At least the humiliation aspects occur in the privacy of your own home and only take a coupla-few hours to completely empty you out.
Sleep until it's time to go for your appointment. Then relax. They will mostly put you out for the procedure and you'll wake up wondering what's for lunch.0 -
LMAO!!! I do Bodypump, and I officially declare you an addict! Don't feel bad, I'd try to do the exact same thing!0
-
The morning of a colonoscopy you will probably be slighly dehydrated from the stuff we make you drink and you will be NPO since midnight and clear broth before that....so no, you will not have enough energy for a work out. You need to be well rested and hydrated before the procedure.0
-
lol, you'll be lucky if you can leave the bathroom for more than five minutes after taking the prep solution! Seriously, if you're feeling okay, go work out. But I wouldn't plan on it. :flowerforyou:0

Thanks for all of the support everyone! I know, one day won't hurt to miss Body Pump. I just like my routine.
And thank you for the reminder that this is good that I could wait until now to have the procedure. I'm not too worried about it, just glad that it will be done and my doctor can find something else to "suggest". Then she said that I won't have to do it again for 10 years, if everything is good. I was going to ignore her advice, but I'm trying to lose weight and get more fit/strong so that I'm healthy. Why not make sure the insides are healthy too?
Again, thanks for the help!0 -

Yes morning work out makes you hydrated and fit whole day, one can go for supplements also.0
