Lifting at goal

I'm heavy lifting to improve my strength and body composition. Eventually I will be happy with how I look. I won't want to keep getting stronger and gaining mass, i'll want to stay as I am. My question is, will I still need to lift 3/4 times a week, or will I maintain by lifting less often?

Maintenance depends on your end goal. If you want to look like Arnold, yeah you'll still need to lift heavy and often to maintain. If you're just looking to be a 6' 170lb lean guy, you could definitely slack up and just stick to the major compound lifts 1-2 times per week.
Diet is upwards of 80% of your body composition. Obviously your muscles wont grow without lifting but if you want to see them through the fat, you've got to focus on shedding the fat.0 -
A lot of it depends on your goals and recovery. Three times a week is fine and super busy people or people that need more time to recover can get by with even 2 times a week, but that 2 times a week they lift like madmen.0

You can make gains lifting 2x week. So maintainance at that frequency shouldn't be a problem...0

oh two times a week is definetly enough to maintain.
plus, the answer is different if your question is 'how often do i have to train to maintain performance' vs. 'how often do i have to train to maintain a given amount of muslce mass'.
performance can drop off pretty fast, like within 4 days. if your over 30 you've probably noticed that a week off hurts you more then it did in highschool lol.
i've read that it takes significantly longer to start losing muscle MASS. like maybe two weeks, maybe more.
of course your diet will play a role in this as well.0
