I love it.... but after watching a programme about how many insects/maggots are in a jar I feel traumatised

You probably shouldn't learn anything about chocolate.

Move to Canada...Canadian peanut butter only has moose claws, no bugs0
-
More protein?
I also don't believe everything I read/watch0 -
careful. maggots are delicacies in some countries.0

Ignorance is bliss1

If you think too much about what's in your food.. you'd never eat.1
-
Make it yourself?? There would be less insects that way....1

Yum, MOAR bugz! Mmmmm.
Don't eat it, then. More for me!0 -
hopefully somewhere in the allotted 20 ppb aflatoxin, there is enough to sanitize the peanut butter.0

Bugs, bugs, bugs! They're everywhere. In your carpets and sofas, in your food (even produce, yeah bugs like fruit, too), even living on your body. We live on Earth, along with the rest of Nature. Sometimes we forget (heck, I tend to for self-preservation of my sanity), but I'm not gonna worry. My PB sammy today was delicious, maggots and all (and probably some yoga mat in the bread). I should have washed it down with cow pus, too, just for good measure!
The point is, sometimes we just have to accept that our food will never, ever be pristine and antiseptic. Never has been, never will be.:flowerforyou:0 -

Yup. Same with most processed foods, there is an "acceptable" amount of contamination. Really it's best just to not think about it and go eat a PB and banana sandwich0 -
There's an allowable amount of rat hair, too, but I still eat peanut butter every day. On my probably wormy apples.0

And this is just another reason why we're friends.

If it bothers you plenty of markets like Wholefoods etc allow you to pick you own peanuts and grind them. Eliminates all those extra ingredients too.0
