How diet affects weight loss...

Hi! I'm new to this website. I'm 22 years old and a Type 1 Diabetic. I wanted to join this website to keep an eye and get more under control with what I eat... I've put on weight since slacking off on eating healthy and I want to drop about 9-10 pounds.
I know what you eat affects your weight loss even more so than exercise, but I plan on doing both... my question is, what should I be eating to lose weight? I have a little bit more bulky muscle than I care to, and I have lost some of that before when I stopped doing any kind of exercise that bulked me up. But what about what I'm eating? I know protein builds muscle... so should I cut back on protein? I don't eat many carbs daily, as being Type 1 Diabetic that's what I keep an eye on (carbs and sugars) and I eat a lot of healthy fats (Avocados, nuts, seeds, sugar free peanut butter...) but I do want to NOT build any more muscle that makes me look bulky, and I want to drop a little bit of fat. What is the best way to do this nutrition-wise? Thanks!

Eat what you want to lose weight, just make sure your calorie intake is at a deficit.
Protein itself does not build muscle. You need protein, proper caloric intake and heavy lifting to build muscle. You do not want to cut back on protein because it keeps you feeling full for longer and provides a lot of nutrients you need.
Women cannot become bulky without the help of supplements. It is really hard for a women to gain a lot of muscle.
Best thing would probably be to lift weights while eating at a calorie deficit so you can retain the muscle you currently have while losing any fat that is on top of the muscle. It will give you a leaner look.0
