is it possible to feel hungover after a bad food day?? ok so let me explain. yesterday was my cheat day. for breakfast i had a whole wheat bagel, (arnolds, that is a flat diet type size), and fat free cream cheese. for lunch i had a small salad and a hamburger. (this was my cheat meal). then at the very last minute my hubby suprised me with an overnight date night, without the kids. he said we were going to a steakhouse for dinner. i checked their website to pick one of the healthier meals before we even got there. i had about 6 oz baked chicken, green beans, side salad with italian dressing, 1 dinner roll, and about 1/4 of a baby onion blossom. when we got to the hotel, he wanted to hit the hot tub, i went to the fitness center. i walked on treadmill with hill intervals for 25 mins and stationary bike for 15 mins. (i had about another 60 mins cardio that morning) then got up and did the same thing before leaving the hotel this morning. we went to subway for breakfast, i had a 6" egg white western on flatbread. then today my sister in law suprised us with lunch. i had a pork cutlet on bun, and tator tots. after not eating that shear amount of food for over 2 months or the grease factor, i honestly feel hungover as bad as if i drank the night away!! (for the record, i did not have any alchohol at all). so where do i go from here? how in the world do i feel better?? i will never never never eat like this again. obviously my body is trained to not eat like this anymore!! i need help! i have been drinking a ton more water all day, and plan to get on the treadmill at home later tonight, and possibly do a dance workout dvd if i can feel a little better. any thoughts??

  • Do you take vitamins? Sometimes my allergies make me feel like crap, another consideration. Sounds like you are pushing it too. Might want to consider taking a break and letting your body recover? Lastly, sometimes we just don't feel good. Hope this helps

I know exactly how you feel. The pleasure of eating the 'not so healthy food' is not worth the sheer discomfort you feel afterwards. I've had this experience before and I think it's because we've trained out bodies to expect something different.

The bloating, discomfort and general feeling of yuckiness will pass. The thing that worked for me was, lots of water, returning to my normal foods asap, keeping sugar and wheat to a minimum and drinking peppermint tea really helped. I know we're all different but I'm just sharing what worked for me.

    You will feel better soon.
  • well honestly, aside from the tots and blooming onion, what was so bad about the day? you say it was a cheat day but you stayed rather in control if you ask me. did you journal? what was your calorie total?

i think you need to be proud you were thoughtful about your choices and that you chose to workout to compensate.

a brisk walk may pull you out of your stupor. i think flushing with lots of water is a great idea.

it was one day in a lifetime. keep perspective :flowerforyou:

So where do you go from here - Nowhere, you had a full day off. Thats all. It won't do you any lasting damage unless you beat yourself off about it. You actually might have boosted your metabolic rate, refueled your muscles, with the carbs you had and that can only be good but even if you haven't its no big deal, you're human, you had a few surprises sprung your way and dealt with them pretty well IMO.
  • I get that way every time I dont get enough sleep.. Did you sleep well at the hotel?

I agree with others who posted. Your food intake was relatively healthy. The amount of food you consumed (and I don't know exact portions here) could have caused your digestive system to slow down which can cause some problems. The only negatives that I can see is the potatoes and the blooming onion - there are a lot of fat calories in those, so your body may have responded to that fat. I know that for me, my body is intolerant of beef, wine, gluten, and dairy. So, if I eat even a dinner roll, and a couple of bites of steak, I will pay for it for several days.

I would say, try to monitor in the future what you consume and if you see similarities between what you eat and how you feel in comparison to your indulgences of yesterday - try to isolate and identify the culprits. It could be something as small or insignificant as the amount of sodium the restaurant used to prepare the meal etc. So, just try to keep a close eye on your body's responses.

Don't beat yourself up! Think about the wonderful time you had with your husband, and how thoughtful your sister-in-law was. I agree with the others, the potatoes and bloomin' onion are probably the cause of your discomfort, but it is great that you thought ahead for your food choice at the resteraunt and excercised after you ate (Bloomin' onion always make me sick). I think sometimes, the way we feel after we eat, isn't necessarily what we've eaten, but how we feel about what we ate. (Similar to stage fright or test anxiety) Keep on keepin' on! It's a whole new way of living.
