What to Eat With Topamax

I have recently started taking Topamax for migraine headaches with auras this week and am already seeing some of the side effects with taste (I also have yet to see a migraine, so I am happy about that). Luckily, I have not experienced anything worse than that and was wondering if anyone could offer advice on foods they found tolerable after their tastes changed? I feel like everything I eat is amplified. Juice is too tart, sweets are too sweet, chips are too salty etc... I found that the sandwich I had at lunch today was too hearty and difficult to finish if that makes sense. Open to suggestions but I have some aversions to texture and OCD issues I am still trying to overcome. (with vegetables, foods touching and mixing, things like that) This is more difficult than I imagined, trying to make a lifestyle change and grow up and start being healthy! Thanks for your help in advance!

I take Topomax for migraines as well, but I take a very low dose. The only affect I've noticed is with carbonated beverages. They taste extremely odd now. Almost like there is a delay before I feel the carbonation? I don't really know how to explain it.

You might try lowering your dose to see if that helps? But I don't know if that will affect your headaches. My doctor basically told me I would have to play around with the dose until I found what was best for me. I just take 1 25mg pill a day.

I have been taking Topamax since 2011, I believe! At first my appetite changed. I wasn't as hungry. I lost a lot of weight when I first starting taking it. I didn't experience the taste side effects you are describing but I did experience drinks tasting different. Anything carbonated was flat. Over time it's gotten better, I think. Either I've gotten used to it or it's worn off. I hope things get better for you. I'm glad your migraines have gotten better. That is always a relief to find something that works! I hope you don't experience any other side effects!

I am currently taking just 25mg/day and will work up to 2x's a day then assess in three weeks. Carbonated beverages have gone out the window, but that's probably a good thing. ::sigh:: I wasn't expecting the different taste changes though. I did read on the pamphlet to expect an altered taste for foods high in sugars and fats, and was wondering what others had experienced. I have no trouble eating when I am on tampax, lol! (It would make for a much more interesting thread though for suggestions on making a tampax taste good!)
