Hello everyone! Today I was diagnosed with PCOS and I don't really know how to feel about it. Should I be worried or brush it off. I have no clue what to expect. My doctor advised me of changing my eating habits since I already exercise and I'm wondering if you fellow PCOS ladies have any tips on how to lose weight and what else I can do for exercise. Right now I do some dancing and boxing here and there but it's not as frequently as I want. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I was diagnosed with PCOS early 2013. As far as weight loss goes it's definitely harder for girls with PCOS since our hormones are so out of whack, but don't let it get you down. From what I understand, if you get to a healthier weight it helps with a lot of the symptoms. If you find it difficult to lose weight you can ask your doctor about Metformin, a lot of women with PCOS use it to help stabilize their blood sugar levels and it can help. In the meantime, eat lots of fruits and veggies, lean proteins, healthy fats (avocado, fish, nuts) and the less sugar you eat the better since sugar can aggravate the PCOS, but don't make yourself desperate. You want a cookie? Have a cookie, but don't eat the whole box like I did in high school. (Keebler Fudge Stripes were my Kryptonite)
As far as being worried about it, worrying over something never helped anybody. Just focus on being a healthier, happier you and that will help a lot.
Exercise: I'm pretty sure the consensus here is to pick up heavy things and put them down, but I'm not really to that point yet myself, so just do what works for you and gradually build up. For example: I went from almost entirely sedentary to walking my dog each morning for 45 minutes. It's not much, but it's definitely better that nothing.0
