Hey all!!

I have a question about calories and different kinds of food. Recently I edited my settings to "Sedentary" for how active I am (I am a student but I also work a desk job.. so I spend most time in class/at a desk/in bed studying..lol)... so it dropped my calories from about 1,330 to 1,210 ... and I am trying not to go over but it's a real struggle.. I'm finding myself hungrier than ever and can't stop eating... I don't really eat a lot of junk (the only thing that i crave is chocolate but i dont eat that very much, i just dont buy it that way its not around lol!)... does anyone have any solutions for foods that will fill me up more?? I eat throughout the day.. I have my morning coffee and a bagel, and then later in the day I eat yogurt with some dry oatmeal mixed in, then ill have a small lunch, and before dinner ill have grapes or something... im trying really hard but I am constantly hungry!

My boyfriend says its because it's winter and getting cold and thats what people do in th ewinter is gain weight... and i know he is right, last winter I didnt gain weight but i did stop losing weight for a period of time. Anyways, does anyone have any ideas?? Maybe I am just at my ideal weight?? I am about 130lbs and 5'6''... the lightest i've been since 8th grade (and im 22)... I also come from an large (in size and weight) italian family (if that makes any difference.. which i guess it does.. genetics..)

But maybe I am just at that point where my body doesn't want me to lose any more weight and I need to focus more on strength training and building muscle??

AHHHHH help! I don't know!! I am so confused and some days I look in the mirror and am so happy with what I see and other days I can't stop eating and looking in the mirror just makes me cry!!

Opinions, suggestions, ideas, support, anything is helpful!

Thanks to all! :)

If you are happy with your weight and overall health, I'd say you could add a few more calories in a day. If you are hungry you should be eating. You could always change your preferences on here to lose less weight/week and it will give you more calories. Just be sure they are healthy ones, high protein, complex carbs, fruits, veggies, etc. And absolutely focus on exercising to maintain weight or tone up, just be sure to compensate with more calories so your body doens't hate you.

I'm from a large Italian family as well, so I understand the struggles that comes with that. It's been lifelong for me!

Maybe you shouldnt lower you calories just yet.. are you getting your water?? ATLEAST 8 glasses a day?
  • I snack on carrots, nature valley bars and stuff like that. And if ur happy with ur wt and u think u can keep it how u want it with a few more calories wont hurt.

Can't see your diary, but based on your description I'd point out that fiber, protein, and water are your satiety friends. Therefore, I'd ditch the bagel and replace it with oatmeal and eggs or even eggs and bacon. Get in your 5 servings of fruits and veggies throughout the day. Try eating a salad with raw kale (my favorite) since the extra fiber is very filling. Make sure you are getting in your water, I thought I was doing well until I started monitoring with a liter bottle.

Having done all this, consider Leaving your calories where they were or working out (ESP strength training) to earn more calories. A smaller deficit is acceptable, too, just remember that human error can make your deficit zero in a hurry.
  • I agree with the last post the bagel has to go they are high in calories and usually low on nutrition. I would try steel cut oats or ezekiel bread with eggs or protein in the am and again add some protein to the grape snack in the afternoon - maybe some cottage cheese or a low sugar greek yogurt. Protein helps fill you and although I too have been trying to stick to 1200 calories I can do it for a few weeks then feel very empty/hungry and just give myself 2 days of eating more but making sure its clean calories then get back on the horse. Give yourself one to 2 days of 1600 calories you may not lose much those two days but you certainly won't gain and you'll feel better.
  • look at my diary. I am not hungry as I eat lots of good food that I prepare. You probably can't cook right now but it can give you an idea of what fills me up and I'm a big guy. Cooking makes all this easier though. I save lots of calories for the evening so I'm not hungry during my sitting around time.
