Heart Rate Monitor Questions

I just purchased a heart rate monitor yesterday. It is nothing special, a $30 Walmart special - that's what I am able to afford at the moment.

The only input to put in under the personal information area was my sex and my age. Didn't ask me my weight. For some reason I thought that my weight was necessary to accurately measure my calories burned? Is this the case?

Also, the amount of calories on mfp when compared to my hrm vary - sometimes by a large variance. Which is more accurate? Probably the hrm huh?

Any feedback would sure be appreciated!

Your weight should be calculated for a more accurate reading. I have found a difference in calories burned between MFP and the HRM but I go with what the monitor says.

MFP wants your weight because the don't know your heart rate, it guesses basically what someone that weight's heart rate should be while doing an activity. HRMs give the actual rate, just check it often to get the most accurate calorie count.
