I've never really done the whole planned cheat meal thing. How often should I have one? My only concern is that if I fall off my diet I may not stop with just one meal and go on a binge :(

If you are worried about effects of cheat meals - don't have one.

There is no 'should' about it - it's a tool that works for some people and not for others.

If you are going to do it, I would say still log it and make sure you don't over do it and wipe out weekly deficit with a huge binge.

Forget a cheat meal. Have an entire cheat day and go on a binge. That's what I do. The only thing is to only do it when it's well deserved - after you've made noticeable progress. For me that's after losing 5 lbs, which takes me about 4 weeks.

Saturday and Sunday are my "cheat" days, and by that I mean that I eat lightly during the week and indulge a bit more on the weekends, keeping it balanced. By having Saturdays and Sundays set aside for indulging, it keeps me on track. If I'm really craving something I can't fit into my diet the other days, knowing I can have it at the weekend lets me relax and stop obsessing, and sometimes when the weekend comes around, I no longer even want that thing.

i always used to have the weekend as my cheat day, it was great i got to eat what i wanted and no be guilty about it

the problem is that it got my out of the swing of my diet every week so never really managed to lose a decent amount of weight , plus i'd often find myself getting so out of the swing of it by the time money came round i couldn't be bothered to log it

i've now stopped with cheat days and the weight of dropping off me

I work mine into my cycle - so I have one a month and plan for when I know I could eat a scabby donkey and I'm going to appreciate it and not feel too guilty.
