edited February 26 in Introduce Yourself
Hi I'm Derik, I just signed up a short while ago and am doing the obligatory intro. post.

I have a long history with exercise, dieting etc., but I don't want to write a novel unless someone is actually interested. I'm working on weight loss of course, along with developing discipline in my overall life, but especially with food. I'm a low carber and have found out that it seems to work best with my body. I pretty much never get colds, don't have indigestion except on the rare occasion, where as carbs (specifically starches, grains, flour, wheat etc.,) always lead to being gassy. Sugar is like heroin to me so I've had an up and down battle with that nasty stuff, weight fluctuations throughout my life and all that, but I keep getting back on the horse. I'm at 260lbs right now and working to get down to 205lbs by December.

Good for you and good luck! I'm doing the low carbs and no sugar right now and I agree it is amazing how different your body feels right from the start. I know from "dieting" in the past that you can curb the sugar cravings by elimination and then introducing slowly back the ones that won't send you into an overdose!! You are right it can be like heroin! Hang in there and stay motivated! feel free to add me if you would like, I'm also trying to build up a group of support.

Thanks! I find that eating fruit is the best type of carbohydrate for me. If I start eating bread, cereal, etc. I start getting cravings. Strawberries and raspberries are a godsend when it comes to great tasting fruit that is low in carbs. It's also amazing how much better fruit tastes when you've pretty much eliminated table sugar from your diet. I think eating all that extra sweet stuff makes fruit taste more bland in comparison.
