Cherry addiction

Fruits and veggies are a big part of my diet. And they're awesome. But there still can be too much of a good thing.
We're in the middle of cherry season...and they're so good now. And they're down to $3.99/lb. But given that a 2 pound bag isn't lasting 2 days...I think I need to cut back.

I just paid $5 for organic blueberries. Now I want organic cherries, too. But crap, I used to spend that on premium ice cream. Yeah, it cost way less per calorie, but I'm still going to try to work more fruits and other luxuries into my budget without running out of food money. I hope.0 -

I've had exactly 144 cherries since the 23rd of June.
Yeah, insane enough to count. Anyway, love them. :happy:0 -

I ate a 2# bag in three hours two days ago.
It was delicious, I regret nothing, and I feel so much lighter.0 -
I'm having cherries most days0

I picked up two bags for $2.49/# today!
I spent an hour pitting one of the bags with a chopstick and a beer bottle for my bourbon cherry pie for our 4th of July BBQ tomorrow .... and trying not to eat the whole second bag. They're one of my absolutely favorite snacks, and I swear they're extra good this year. Last summer I seemed to get all sour ones.0 -
Oh, I love cherries! Munching fresh off the trees! Nobody else want them, or know about them, or realize how freakin delish they are. Stupid Norwegians. Maybe they just have too much money.0

My dad and I just went cherry-picking today and picked 8 pounds of cherries each. I see so many cherries in my future! (I also ate 3 while picking them...and logged them on MFP.) :-D0

I am WAY too cheap to by a pitter and too lazy to do it with a knife. It's a good way to do it relatively quickly.
I got the recipe from here: http://bakingthegoods.com/2014/07/03/cherry-bourbon-pie/. I made blueberry-red wine sauce and French vanilla ice cream to go with it, too0 -
I love them but for some reason I can't eat them too late in the day, they make me pee all night! Sorry if that is TMI!0

There's nothing in life better than fresh cherries. One Christmas, my wife bought me this super-fancy cherry pitter. Now, at the height of the season, I'll pit pounds upon pounds. Pit them all, and put in ziplock baggies, 1/2 pound per baggie. Then freeze them. I pull them out all year long.
I think Raineers are my favorite, though you can never go wrong with Bings.
I like cooking 1C cranberries with 1/2C cherries, and 1/4 to 1/2 C orange juice. And some extra sugar to taste. Best holiday cranberry sauce ever.
Jeez, there are so many uses for fresh cherries.0 -
Oh I am so jealous.
I could never afford to eat that many cherries.
I don't mean afford as in fit into my calories but literally afford - they are sooo expensive here.
Same as raspberries - was in heaven when I went to UK last year and could buy huge bag for couple of pounds.
$8 for tiny punnet here0 -
Where do all you people live?! They are on "sale" right now at $5.99 per pound (regular price $7.99). I LOVE cherries, but I am just not willing to spend that much. In previous years, they would go down to $3.99, but that has not happened this year. I want cherries! :sad:0

Pitters are expensive? It's been a few years so I could be wrong, but I think mine cost only about $10 or so at Target. I can't imagine a summer without it now!0 -
Glad I'm not alone. Just stumbled across this discussion right after eating maybe even 2 cups of cherries. I live in PA, and our local ACME just had cherries on sale for $1.99 a pound. So, I grabbed up two big bags.
Now, I'm worried about eating too many carbs and not enough protein! I'm hoping the benefits outweigh the carbs.0
