I am 20 years old. I have been larger typically all of my life. When I was a child I wasn't fat but I was very solid. My parents kept me active. in old pictures I can see little baby abs. I was a cheerleader in high school at about 211 ibs I am now 260 and my height is about 5'6 to 7. I wear a size 16 in pants and large- x-large in tops. My body is very thick from the waist down. I clearly don't have a flat stomach but I have an hour glass figure. I've had a gut for at least 10 years. I am now looking to drop weight and achieve the body i know I could have. but will I ever have a flat stomach ?? I am very new to dieting and exercise and i am pretty much clueless. I am embarrassed to work out with people because I am so out of shape. Does anyone have really good exercises and diets to help melt this weight off? My 21st birthday is November 5th so i am dedicated to work really hard to feel confident (feel better in clothes) when I reach 21.

I'm new to this scene, as well so I'm probably not qualified to give advice (but I still will, ha!). I started by calculating how many calories per day I was going to allow myself (my goal is around 1300). Then I went grocery shopping and read the labels on everything I put in the cart. Load up on veggies and fruit, whole grains, almond or coconut milk, lean meat (if you do meat, I don't). Stay away from "sugar free" because these items are loaded with aspartame and other artificial sweeteners that will make you crave carbs. Find healthy recipes online (hello pinterest!) and cook 'em up! Drink water like it's going out of style and get some sort of exercise in.
I don't have a gym membership or any special workout instruments. I started with some basic youtube exercise videos and was over that quick (sorta wanna strangle the skinny girls telling me to push myself). So instead, I now run the staircase in my house. I love this workout because it sort of counts for cardio and resistance at the same time. Throw some push ups in the mix and you've got a pretty decent starter workout. If you can't run them at first, walk them. Add a couple sets a week and work up to a run. Listen to your body. If you begin to get dizzy, light-headed, shaky, etc, slow down. Also, track your heart rate and find where your personal fat-burn zone is.
The biggest hurdle is your own mind. Figure out what inspires you. I stalk the profiles of other members who have had some significant success and remind myself that if these people can do it with hundreds of pounds lost, I can lose my fifty. Make it a hobby and set little goals. This way, you'll look forward to meal planning and exercise, rather than dreading it. This journey is just like anything else, practice make perfect. I just started so I'm may not be as informed or successful as the next chick, BUT I am working on it! I'll get there, you'll get there! Here's to flat bellies0
