Has anyone tried a water fast?

Options
Hello, back to it again! Was just wondering if anyone had attempted a 7 day water fast before? I have started a 7 day water fast today to kick start the process of my weight loss journey. I know what to expect as i have fasted before, just not for so long, and was looking to hear about other people's experiences? Thanks.

I personally have never done it and I don't think I would be able to go that long without eating. There are a lot of posts and groups based around intermittent fasting or "IF". There is consent debates on the message boards as to if it is a healthy thing to do or not.

What is the longest you have done a water fast for?

Ah, i haven't seen those groups, I may have a look at those. Thanks :)
I know the stigma attached to this topic but it's something that I feel i need to do.
The longest was 4 days, I used to have an ED so i know the risks that come with fasting but i intend to be sensible and stop if i feel that my health is at risk.
    Thanks for responding.

Ok I'm going to ask a serious question. Why do you think this is a good idea?

    :noway:

Why not try learning some healthy ways to lose weight instead of doing something triggering to your ED?

The fact that you used to have an ED is just ringing alarm bells to me

Have a look at this post and think about it

Just a warning because you are new here: this thread will not end well. Brace yourself. That being said, a 7 day water fast is a dangerous and unhealthy idea. I do not recommend it.

    Here's my serious advice:

    1. As a new person to these forums, the search function is your friend. Before posting, do a search of your topic. You'll be able to see how this community responds to whatever you're wondering about, but without putting yourself out there for public criticism.

    2. Drinking nothing but water for a week is not healthy or sustainable, and as such, it violates the terms of service of these forums. MFP does not promote unhealthy habits or gimmicks. This thread will probably be locked and deleted within a day.

    3. Kickstarting your weight loss is as simple as eating less food.

    4. IF (as a previous poster mentioned) is not the same as a water fast.

Good luck on your journey to better health. :flowerforyou:

I don't think 7 day fasts are healthy, that being said, if you are feeling sluggish as you mention - why not start exercising more? Even just walking can get everything moving and also boost your energy. If you really feel you must avoid solid foods for whatever reason - could you at least do juice or smoothies or something so that you are getting nutrients from fresh veggies and fruits? Nothing in those to make you feel sluggish if you do it right - and then you don't have to be hungry, have blood sugar drops or possibly retrigger an ED.

    This...

You've had an ED before, I'm going to guess you don't want to start that again...it's about making lifestyle sustainable changes.

Hey...when you get done with the water fast, you may want to look into breathearianism.

Definition: Breatharianism: is the belief that it is possible for a person to live without consuming food.

Please report back and let me know how this works out for you.

    4. IF (as a previous poster mentioned) is not the same as a water fast.

You are right it is not fully the same thing. I should of clarified that it would give her an idea on people opinion about not eating for long periods of time. That is it probably the close thing she is going to find information wise on here because these posts normally get locked and deleted pretty quickly.

Personally I don't think going that long with only water is a good idea. I would also imagine that you would gain all the weight back the fallowing weeks since you didn't change anything. Yes you changed how many calories you ate in one week but you didn't change your over all lifestyle. It pretty much pointless to do if you are going to go right back to over eating and not exercising.

You said you have done it for 4days before? What where your results? Did you keep the weight off?

And no one was really mean to her, either, just gently pointing out the idiocy of her plan. Some people just have thin skin :)

I have started a 7 day water fast today to kick start the process...
I know she deactivated so this is for anyone else. Our bodies are not motorized vehicles. They don't require kick starting.
