30 BaD = 3000+ cals How does this work?

So I watch a lot of youtube fitness and nutrition channels. Youtube recommended Freelee the banana girl; a mostly raw fruititarian. She eats fruit most of the day, and recommends everyone take up this life style and get 3,000+ calories in fruit a day in order to get all your nutrition for the day from just fruit. This is the equivalent amount of fruit as about 30 bananas a day.

Hers a video if no one knows what I'm talking about or if y'all are curious. She's really chipper and pretty entertaining with her over-the-top energy.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZRuytGHlpNc

My question is, she typically eats 3000-4000 (she even brags about having over 5,000 sometimes) calories a day and in her above video, it seems she mostly gets a long strenuous bike ride a day and then walks around leisurely (as in shopping or walking around the house) or sits the rest of the day. She has a rocking body. Not an ounce of fat on her. How is this possible? That seems like far to many calories for the activity she does. Is she doing more exercise and not showing it?

She was even a fat fruititarian at one point (her words), she claims she just stuck with it and her body was healed by all the years of damage (from meat) and she got ripped doing the exact same stuff as always. She also seems to claim she can eat this high number of calories because its all from a nutritious fruititarian source and you cant get fat on that. Also that because there is <10% fat in her diet, its impossible for her to get fat. I am unconvinced by these arguments. Any ideas whats really going on?

ps; def. not thinking about doing this btw; you can take my meat from my cold dead hands; I'm just curious

edit: break up big text block

She's either doing more activity than she says she is, she's eating less than she says she is, or she's a closeted bulimic. Also, she's crazy by the way. If you eat 3000+ calories a day in just fruit, you're getting much more vitamins and minerals than your body needs and all the extra is excreted in your urine and is basically a waste. As long as you don't have legitimate allergies, meat is not bad for you, dairy is not bad for you, gluten is not bad for you, etc. You need protein, if you don't get protein, your muscles will atrophy, that's a simple fact. Also, the dietary fat intake thing is complete BS. Carbohydrates can easily be converted into stored body fat, it happens all the time, so just because she's not eating very much dietary fat, that doesn't mean she won't get fat, it's the calorie intake as a whole, not the dietary fat, it's not the 90s anymore, we know that dietary fat doesn't make you fat. There's also no way she's eaten that high a percentage of her calories from carbohydrates every day for a prolonged period of time without developing at least a small amount of resistance to insulin. It's very unhealthy.

I think there's a lot she is exaggerating. I wouldn't follow her advice if I was paid to  It doesn't matter if your calories come from bananas or sausage, it's a calorie deficit that creates weight loss and it's regular exercise that completes the equation for a rockin' body.

(Of course, someone's going to jump on my statement and say bananas are healthier than sausage ... And I've never said that you don't have to pay attention to nutrition. But what you really need is a well-balanced diet that meets your macro and micro nutrient needs and fits within your calorie goals. Sometimes bananas are what you need to do that, sometimes sausage will better fit those needs)

She is either lying about her diet/exercise OR she sits on the toilet far too long every day getting rid of the 'excess'.

Like I said, wasn't planning on it- I love meat. I was just curious about how its possible she eats so much. Seems most of you think its not and she's lying. Figures.

She was trying to sell an ebook in the intro, so I'd take everything she says with a pinch of salt, whey and olive oil.

While it wouldn't surprise me if she's lying, I do think it's possible she could maintain on a high calorie intake. Just due to activity.

Really? Even on her 5,000 cal days? Crazy. I have to admit, I would like to eat 5,000 calories a day... Of steak...5,000 in bananas sounds like a crap fest. Literally and figuratively.

She's not likely averaging 5000/day for extended periods. She's also not likely tracking intake or expenditure which means there's no way we can say whether or not anything is unusual about her lack of weight gain.

Well 3000 calories, even 4000-5000, can be done if she's active enough. I'm guessing her 'strenuous bike ride' is much longer & more intense than what the average person would be doing and I also bet she is much more physically active than she lets on. My calorie allowance today is 5000 but I'll also be burning around 3000 from running (ran 30km this morning and have another 20km to do this evening).

In the end, it's calories in vs calories out whether you're eating bananas or cookies or meat or whatever.

    She's full of something.

Well, maybe not with all that fruit.

I can also believe you can maintain on a high caloric intake. No one body is the same as another. Even though the physics of calorie burn may be generally the same from one person to the next, the rate of that burn is individual.
There are natives peoples whose primary source of daily nutrition was ready-to-eat fruits. I don't think it's that far of a stretch to believe a person can manage this type of diet...

What *does* become questionable is someone who is promoting a book and a lifestyle based on their own misconceptions of dietary principles. The only point in making a video about your lifestyle in this regard is to make money off of those that are watching.
