overheating...

I have a very serious issue of overheating! I don't even have to be exercising, it happens anytime I get too hot! I have tried working out in air conditioning, walking late at night or early morning to avoid high temps, but as soon as I get hot my face turns an unsightly purple (not exaggerating), I break out in a cold sweat, and begin vomiting violently within minutes. I have to stand in a cool shower or jump in a pool to get my body temp back down & even then experience severe headaches for the next 8-12 hours! This seems to be a genetic issue that my mom, sister, aunts, etc suffer with as well. We have all been to countless doctors to no avail! I am even undergoing acupuncture to see if it helps. This, obviously limits my exercise! Any one else have this issue or have any ideas??
P.S. thyroid has been checked dozens of times & is fine.

Wow, I have no ideas for you but plenty of sympathy. I constantly feel sticky and have air conditioning going even in winter but that doesn't really compare to what you suffer. What about swimming?

That sounds terrible. Try starting with very mild exercises maybe? Just walk in an air conditioned building. It's possible that your body might be more accepting if you up the exercise verrrrry gradually. Otherwise swimming (as suggested) could be a good alternative. If you swim in cold water it will help with over heating at least somewhat.

Have your hypothalamus checked- that causes difficulty in regulating your body temp. My doctor just tested mine because he wasn't sure if my similar issues (everything minus the vomiting)- was caused by the hypothalamus or thyroid (I am hypo- have Hashimoto).

Another thought- It could also be a sign of dehydration. I've read many running articles where people share their stories of the same symptoms- even within the first few minutes of exercise. It ended up being dehydration- they drank a lot of water, just not enough for their bodies needs.

I hope they get this figured out for you. I know what its like when your insides feel like they are on fire and you have to submerge yourself in ice cold water for awhile so your not nauseas and it takes sometimes overnight to fully feel back to normal. I agree with the suggestion on swimming. I take water aerobics classes daily. I can get my heartrate into the fat burning range, but usually not get over heated. Best wishes for a cure.

I love to swim, but only option in my small town is the YMCA which is too pricey right now.

I don't know what causes your problems, nor would I give my opinion. On the other hand, the Y does offer financial assistance if you are low income. I qualify for it and pay around $8 per month for my membership.

If you cant swim, freeze a wet washcloth and put it around your neck while you exercise. Start slowly and work your way up to more. If you are truly desperate, freeze a light undershirt to wear - not pretty but will keep you plenty cool!

I agree, try to swim. It will be more comfortable for you. I also get red faced to the point people do double takes. It does not happen in the pool though.

I don't have anything like this but I hate being hot. I'm sure that's why I live in Arizona. . . but what I do. . . I have two fans pointed at my treadmill. I have gel bags that I keep in the freezer. They have their own little protective pillowcases. I put one down the front of my sports bra when I'm exercising. I also have some kind of chill blanket thing I got at Bed, Bath, and Beyond. It's a rubbery thing about the size of a large hand towel. When it is wet, it is pretty cold and stays cold until it dries. I often put that on the back of my neck.

That sucks. Run outside with the hose on you. Seriously though just watch your calories and you should be fine. Maybe a bit slower to loose but you will get there in the end
