My sweet asian mother always stocks her house up with goodies galore. Today being no different, i open the freezer to see a costo hand dipped almond ice cream bar.....and went in for the kill! 870 calories later im totally kicking myself in the *kitten*......i need words of encouragement! Its only 3 and I'm convincing myself I won't eat for the rest of the night....hah....

Get some exercise and munch on veggies - it isn't good to go so long without eating, so at least eat some veggies this evening.0

O.K., all is not lost. Stop kicking yourself in the bahooney and go exercise-do a quick run, or a fast walk, do some exercise on demand TV. Then eat a salad with some low sodium ham or some chicken breast on it for dinner. It's not the end of the world but remember this feeling next time something like that is calling your name.0

A two-hour walk would take care of it. It's like reversing history.0

Yes I agree with the above advice. Most of us have moments like this and then after are kicking ourselves. I do it all the time but I do try to remind myself most of the time that....
"Nothing tastes as good as being thin feels"

here's the thing that we tend to forget sometimes: slip ups are okay. it's how you deal with the aftermath that matters. say for example i eat one slice of pizza too many (and i know i shouldn't have even been having it in the first place, but it's an example). that means i need to kick myself in the *kitten* at the gym to work it off, not starve myself the rest of the day because of calories. you almost consider the gym a punishment for slipping up, but in the end going to the gym is a reward because of how you're going to look and feel later on down the road. NOW, for the rest of the week or whatever, just look at the bars and see how much you can just tell yourself NO. don't eat it. it's not worth it. sometimes you eat just because you're bored, and if that's the case do something to get your mind off of it. hope this helped!!0

eat a sensible dinner. not eating would do more damage. so your going to be over your calories, big deal. your human, not a robot. as long as your not camming 900 calorie ice cream daily dont worry about it. Take a walk or a jog if it makes you feel better. Just eat dinner.0

For the record going over your calories one time doesn't undo all the hard work you've done until this point. Shake it off. Don't go nuts tonight eat sensibly and when you wake up tomorrow wake up with the resolve not to do it again. :drinker:0

In my "former" life I would have thought . . . oh to hell with it I will just throw in the towel and start my "diet" again on Monday . . . I spent literally years waiting for the next Monday to come.
I now realize that we are all going to indulge sometimes, for a celebration or just a simple craving, it is just a fact of life as we cannot just stop eating all together . . . but one bad choice does not need to continue for the rest of the day, or week.
So you ate too many calories . . . SO WHAT . . . one bad choice is not going to set you back as long as you take a moment to realize that and instead of beating yourself up about it. Just use it as a learning experience for the next temptation.
Truthfully, I have learned much more about myself from reviewing my bad choices than anything on this journey. It is human nature to have to screw it up to learn from it . . . you are just human like the rest of us!0 -
Thanks for all the support everyone! I went walking around the mall for about an hour (which i logged as thirty minutes) and have plans on going to the gym afterwards. I can do this!0

When you fall off the wagon, just get back on right away. The next day at the latest. And don't sweat it. Even if you overate 900 calories and did no exercise to make up for it, that'll constitute only a quarter of a pound. In 100% fat, that's a stick of butter (distributed over your entire body ... not in one place!). That's not a catastrophe. Take a deep breath, tell yourself that you've had your splurge and you're back on track now. And that's it. Don't sweat it. Everyone deserves a break now and then and, I'd even say that without those "give in" moments (where you actually enjoy something extravagant), it's hard to maintain a life of healthy eating. It's not a diet ... it's a "be healthier for your lifetime" journey. Enjoy those little pit stops and move on.0

lutzsher,
Well said!
Also it's perfectly fine to have a cheat meal or cheat day and if you consider it a slip-up. That's fine too. You don't need to wait till tomorrow to eat right again, you can eat right for the rest of the night. Someone mentioned veggies and things to snack on, great idea. Cucumbers/carrots and numerous other fruits and veggies have very few calories. You can munch on them all day and not make a dent in your calorie intake.0
