Knee Pain :(

I am losing out on my exercises and strength training because of a niggle in my right knee. After long periods of inactivity like sleeping in the night, the knee joint gets really stiff and pains me when stretching my legs. It seems more like a joint pain than muscle pain. I am not sure what I did to cause it but I also drive to work and I think that aggravates it.
I have been taking it easy on my aerobics and running because of that, but I miss working out. :( I am trying out all remedies like hot and cold compresses and elevating my leg, massaging it, etc. It helps and the pain is fading, but I don't know when I will get back to my 100%.
Have any of you experienced this? Do you have any tips on how to deal with it? It's painful, but only slightly, it's more like an annoying niggle. And oh, it's been going on for more than a week now. And before anyone asks, I always stretch before and after exercises.

    don't stretch before exercising. it's actually really bad for you. warm up by doing some jumping jacks,body weight squats, and do dynamic stretches. dynamic stretching are designed to warm up your body and promote joint lubrication.

    my knees were wrecked after some military training I had to go through. First and foremost I would say see your doctor since it's been over a week, an MRI might be necessary. However, if you're not wanting to go that route, have you tried osteo bi-flex or a similar joint supplement? A very low risk supplement that has worked wonders for me.

    Try some stretches http://www.runnersworld.co.uk/beating-injury/five-quick-stretches-to-keep-healthy/6958-2.html - the Seated Iliotibial Band Stretch is really good.

    Also consider getting and using a foam roller and rolling your legs - this is the same as getting a sports massage, but cheaper.

    Also a regular sports massage or physio can be helpful.

    Also check that your running shoes aren't worn.

    I think I pushed myself too hard in circuit training and that's where I probably hurt myself. :frown:

    Omega 3 oil or capsules help. Personally, I don't run as it aggravates my knee, heavy squats, on the other hand, has helped them no end. See a doctor though if it's really painful.
