Avoiding Your Favorite Food That You See ALL THE TIME

I live with my mom and she is THE QUEEN of deep frying everything in vegetable oil and throwing salt in all her food. I hate cooking for her because she always says, "And put some salt in my food please."

She's gotten into the habit of cooking fried chicken once or twice a week. I looove fried chicken and every time she cooks it I freakin eat it like a woman that keeps going back to a man after 25 breakups.

I can avoid anything else she cooks but fried chicken...I have to eat it. Even after I've had a healthy meal I still eat it and if I haven't eaten prior to it it's even worse because I eat more. Now of course I've realized this is a problem a while ago but honestly I didn't care much until yesterday I looked at my foot and realized it had swelled up. The only reason my foot ever swells up is when I've consumed too much salt.

When I cook my food, I NEVER use salt because my body for some reason is very sensitive to salt. Certain areas like my hands and feet swell if I eat too much.

Last year it was easy for me to drop weight because my mom didn't cook as much but for some reason ME being in the kitchen too often has gotten her feeling like she HAS TO COOK.

There are times when she does try to cook healthy and I do appreciate it but she always end up using too much of something like too much salt, too much extra virgin olive oil, too much sauce.

I love my mom but to me the way she cooks her food is a slow path to being fat forever.

When she cooks her food how can I avoid eating it? How do I shame myself enough to the point where I stay in my room avoiding her food?

I understand how you feel. There are things I love. I don't cut them out entirely, I just let myself have a small portion once in a while.

Don't think of "shaming" yourself! That's not the right attitude. There's no shame in this. When your mom makes fried chicken, and you want some, it's ok. Just have 1 piece, or 2, and STOP.

Can you cook separately, for yourself? If not, maybe ask her to not salt things as she cooks, but add the salt to her food when she eats her portion. Scrape the sauce off your food. Eat small portions of whatever you have.

    You'll be fine.

If you can't move out (which I would do - then you can do your own stuff), then get her on board. Sell MFP to her, and tell her how much healthier she will be. Teach her how to log stuff as well, and soon she will be hopefully cutting down on the fried chicken without you even having to nag.
