I have started using a fitbit and I know the "general" recommendation for weight loss is 10,000 steps/day. I walk a decent amount with my job (it's a desk job but I walk around the hospital that I work at) so average about 5,000 steps/day without any extra exercise. I also take pretty short strides so while 10,000 steps = 5 miles for most people, it is about 12,000 steps for me to get to 5 miles. At any rate, I am aiming for 10,000 steps/day every day this month. Has anyone had weight loss with just adding this? I am counting my calories as well but just curious if this has helped anyone.

I read something interesting the other day, that the 10,000 steps does many wonderful things for your health, but losing weight without changes to calorie intake isn't one of them (I know you are counting calories too, so I'm not implying that you're setting yourself up for failure or anything). Saw it here http://health.usnews.com/health-news/blogs/eat-run/2014/05/21/why-10-000-steps-a-day-wont-make-you-thin. (sorry don't know how to do links)

I do a ton of walking (1-1.5 hours a day), but I do it because I enjoy it, it gives me a break from work, is time for myself and otherwise a knee injury I have misbehaves, BUT I don't do it because it will shed pounds. Yeah, it's probably helped, but I set my calories from walking to 1 and just adjust my intake to actually shift the flab.

MFP has a Fitbit Users group: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/forums/show/1307-fitbit-users

My goal is 8,000 steps per day. I eat back all my Fitbit calorie adjustments, and I lost weight. It will take trial & error to find what works for you.
