Educate me on Resistance Training

Hello.
Since joining MFP I have lost 20 pounds and I am in the best shape of my life! I run 2 or 3 times a week and log my calories everyday. I would like to start resistance training but I am unsure where to start or how much I should do to help me maintain my weight. My stats are: 30 yrs, female, 5'4", 118lbs if that helps. I've heard that weight training burns significantly more calories than cardio. Is that true?
Thanks for your help!

Dietary control for weight loss.
Training for fitness.
And no, calorie burns from weightlifting (unless you're doing met-con, circuits, etc) are negligible. The benefits are strength, power, size, retention of lbm, depending on how you train and how you eat.
A good beginners resource for lifting is Starting Strength. All the main lifts and a programme to follow too.0
