To lift or not to lift...

Hey, everyone,

I am fairly active. I bike, swim, run, play soccer, take ballet, etc... but I have a question: Should I also be weight training in addition to my cardio (I do about 45-60 mins of moderate to medium intensity 6x a week)? I have found I really, really don't like weight lifting (Sometimes I feel like I have no clue what I am doing) and that it tends to bore me within a couple days. Is there anyway to remedy this boredom or are there other activities that could be done instead of weights?

Thanks!

Usually boredom means you aren't being challenged enough.

So get on a program for progressive lifting.

A well balanced fitness program will have both Cardio AND resitence training.

    check out starting strength
    new rules of lifting
    strong lifts
    or strong curves

all should point you in the right direction.

Being fairly active you would benefit from lifting to improve endurance, strength in form, and to prevent injury. You might look around YouTube for athletic fitness exercises that are more about high rep or interval training, especially if you have sport specific goals. Doing those might be of more interest since they have a specific goal instead of just pushing weight for weights sake.

Body weight and resistance is more than enough for your goals.

I would check out Strong Curves. I've heard nothing but good things about it and my friends who do it are seeing really positive results.
