Why isn't housework listed on options for physical activity?

I do around 3-4 hours of constant housework per day, but when I've searched for these type of activities for my calories burned, there is nothing. Now I know vacuuming wouldn't burn the calores of a run, but I suspect I would be burning around 150-200 cals a day just on housework.

Am I searching wrong, or is it just not there? I know I can add in my own activities but I'm unsure how many cals are burned for the amount I'm doing?

It is under "cleaning". There is nothing specific like dusting, etc., it is just generic cleaning.

usually people do it as part of a daily activity, if that is the case, then it's part of your activity level, not your exercise routine. If you're doing a similar time daily or 5 days a week or so, then I would count it as activity instead of exercise. You can adjust your goals upward for activity level. That will still raise your calorie level, but it will eliminate the need to put in the same activity every day.

It is listed as Katy says under cleaning. I was wondering about painting, I have been scraping and painting the outside of the house. Can't find anything for it.

Remember guys, these are Wiki like. In order for an exercise to be in there, someone has to put it in the first time. And likewise, always check to make sure the calories are right, cuz people are putting these in, and they are specific to an individual, you may not have the same calorie burn as others who posted this exercise originally.

Right......I don't put in the general cleaning that I do everyday as an exercise. However, if I have one Sunday where I spend like 5 or 6 hours doing some heavy-duty cleaning I might use SOME of that time as exercise.

The exercise calories are weird sometimes. On saturday I was doing some gardening and when I went to add those calories it said 800 calories for 2 hours. I know I was working hard (pulling weeds, lifting, planting etc.) but 800 seems like a lot. Though my body did feel sore the next day especially my butt. I guess from squatting.

buy a heart rate monitor that calculates calories. That way you never have to guess. It is a very nice tool to have no matter what type of exercise you are doing. They are a bit pricy and you have to wear a chest strap...but it is more than worth it!
