Need a little support

Hey friends, I feel the need to come right out and say what's been on my mind. I thought I had an eating disorder...I occasionally (very rarely) take laxatives/drink senna tea to try to lose weight, and I go through phases where I obsess so much about being skinny and I limit my calorie intake very rigidly. I have always hated my body, but I still go through times where I eat normally, or even too much. I have no idea what is going on here; do I have a disorder? I really hope I don't but it's really scaring me. I'm going away to New York without my parents and I have planned to do a very strict calorie limit (800 calories or less) but I don't think that makes me anorexic, does it? I'm very worried and confused.

  • Hello :) I can't say whether you have a disorder or not, but I think you should go ahead and see somebody about these things. It sounds like you could benefit from at least talking it out :) and please reconsider the 800 calorie plan. That is very unhealthy, and you deserve health :)

I'm actually already seeing a professional right now (for another issue) but I will definitely bring it up. Thank you for your kind words!! :)

There are definitely a some red flags there and I do believe if you do not already have an eating disorder you are not far off it.

Low calorie, occasionally (isn't rarely to me) laxatives, and if you your profile pic is current to lose 25lb would very likely put you in the underweight catergory.

Is there anything else you haven't mentioned that may contribute to an eating disorder?

I agree with all of this. You should also stop taking laxatives for weight loss; you mostly just lose water weight, and it can lead to dehydration along with other issues.

The fact that you are having concerns about it would be enough to make it worth pursuing with your professional. You do seem to have some disordered thoughts around food and what is 'normal' eating and dieting behaviors. It is a good plan to follow up. Perhaps a referral to a registered dietician for some guidance and support on how to be healthy while trying to reach your goals as well as what goals are appropriate for you. Best wishes for you. :flowerforyou:

Thank you to everyone!!! I feel bad about the laxatives since they make me feel so weightless but I'll try to stop using them.

I don't think there's anything else I have failed to mention, thank you for your advice!
