    She may be eating late at night, but it may not be right before bed. Also, eating carbs at night may be okay for her goals. Eating veggies and fruit have relatively low carb numbers (she's not indulging in a danish or anything), and honestly I would go for them before dealing with the added cholesterol, fat, sodium and calories of meats, eggs, yogurt, etc. As for crackers, I'm not sure if you've been in the market recently but there are plenty of low carb/starch/sodium varieties of cracker snacks that boast higher fiber and high iron as advantages. Protein does a girl little good if she has iron that's too low, and processed deli meats, etc actually have relatively low iron and complete protein contents.
