Hi there! I no longer do the Keto thing, I just couldn't keep it up - BUT I wanted to let you all know that if you go to groups and search " keto" here, you will find some really active groups with tons of members and info. I found them very helpful

I was a believer in a keto diet until I tried to do anything that required moving. I would go to the gym and couldn't make it thru any of my workouts.

A ketogenic diet is always my last resort, when I am not able to drop the pounds otherwise. I think I have an addiction problem with carbs. I cannot control my portions when I eat carbs and always seem to eat too much for my size and age.
The ketogenic diet works for me because I am not really a meat eater and after a few days on mostly protein and fat, I eat like chicken, eggs, turkey, shrimps and very little vegetables and salads and no fruits and no rice, pasta, bread or anything else with flour or starch in it., my hunger is gone and I even forget eating meals. I also do not look forward to eating, so the diet is pretty effective for me. Of course I cannot stay very long on it because I crave my fruits and nuts and yogurt etc. But I will stay on the strict ketogenic diet to drop my first 10 pounds and hopefully will be able to lose the remaining ten by exercising much more.

Is there a specific A ketogenic diet that everyone is fallowing? or amount of carbs that everyone is eating? I understand the concept of the diet but no idea how many carbs should I be limited too.

What kind of workouts were you doing?
I lift 3 days a week and do know what you are talking about. A can of tuna or enough kale before a workout is what helps me. They do say that you can carb up before a workout and go back into keto afterward without going through induction again.

We are the same height, but I am much older. I only started to have weight problems after menopause and went on a ketogenic diet several times. I always drop weight easily and I am not hungry, but after a few days I start hating the food and only the weight loss keeps me going. The moment I add carbs I gain weight. What has been working for me in the past years was bike riding every day for hours. As I am retired I can do that. But if for some reason I cannot ride every day for hours I put on weight. It is a vicious cycle, because if I do not bike so much I eat more and the wrong stuff. So at the moment I have to get rid of twenty pounds, the result of eating too much bread, dessert and cakes. My goal weight is 116, this is where I feel the best and have the most energy, but it is hard to get there.

There is a really good blog and calculator for your macros here:

    http://www.ruled.me/keto-calculator/

Most keto diets are below 20g of carbs per day, but in reality you'll need to see what works for you :)

FYI, I have been reading a blog by Dr. Peter Attia called The Eating Academy. His blog is what opened my eyes to the truth about carbs and sugar. Check it out at http://eatingacademy.com/.

I posted a link to one of his videos the other day ......

I was thinking about doing this too but I can't afford to eat that much meat. I don't make much money.

I've been on it for about 5 months and lost about 44 pounds... My brother has been on it for over a year and lost about 150 pounds.

I have been following a ketogenic diet for a few months since April (some significant cheating in there while adjusting to a new way of eating). I have lost 7lbs since April. I get a lot of inspiration for how I put together a daily eating routine from mariamindbody.com and the bulletproof diet web site. I have chronic health issues, and eating a high fat, grain-free diet really helps me live symptom free, and keep my weight in check. I have eaten a paleo diet for many years, but never consistently counted carbs until this past April, and I am really happy with the results from a weight perspective and health improvement perspective.

I am in maintenance now. To be honest i don't look at it as a "diet". You'll noticed i used the word "lifestyle". I've completely changed the way I look at my meals and eating. I plan to maintain by keeping my macros the same and just boosting my calories a little. We will see how it goes.

I think when people use the word "diet" they already have a quick fix, negative view of it. Like, if i don't lose 10 lbs in the first week on this "diet" then they will give up on it.

After being in it for almost a year, I don't see menus at restaurants the same as everyone, I will go eat anywhere and know that i can make whatever they cook work for me.

Do I miss bread? HELL YES!. I seriously had a dream about making sweet love to a Hawaiin Roll, weird right? However, I get pretty much all the bacon i can handle. In the dream when the Hawaiin Roll left, she had to take the walk of shame in front of all my friends who were all slices of bacon. i really need to lay off the weed.

    ETA: TMI? Maybe.

I am wondering this as well. I am doing low carb LOVE it however, my weight loss is stalled and I am wondering if I need to go lower. I do strength training 3 times a week and cardio 5 times. I average 25-30 net carbs a day. Mostly from veggies and average 1400 calories a day.

I'm new. I started using Medifast foods for the main part of a ketogenic diet (and have a free Take Shape for Life coach). I started all this around July 17 and it's working so far. I'm very happy to find a sense of support & community here -- and of course information.
